Hi all! Was just wondering what everyone's top 10 healthiest fruits and veggies are. I live in the country so I have a farmers market oh..... almost everywhere and I can get a weeks supply for myself and my 2 teen girls for under $25. Trying to make sure I get the right ones for all 3 of us and was wondering for my list next week. This weeks list is already made and I'm going tomorrow morning. Side note in a few weeks I am getting a juicer because they wont eat things like brussel sprouts or asparagus or kale. They also don't like squash or well anything except for carrots broccoli cucumbers tomatoes and lettuce I think that's all they eat lol. I am going to make juices for them in the morning with the stuff they don't like just to get it into them. Thanks for responses!

There are different macro and micronutrient profiles for each veggie or fruit so I think it's more about what you want to get out of them?
I think the healthiest ones are the ones you are most likely to want to eat.
I love cabbage, Brussels, broccoli, strawberries, mandarin oranges, onion, spinach, potatoes, corn, carrots, cauliflower, romaine, avocadoes, tomatoes, apples, bananas, coconut, zucchini (and on and on...)0 -
Fruit and veggies have different benefits. Instead of telling you what I think are the healthiest, I will tell you my favorite:
Tomatoes, onions, cauliflower, cucumbers, cabbage, spaghetti squash, carrots, celery
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, apples, mango, papaya, kiwi, pears, avocado0 -
LOL ok you have a long list. I guess I was looking for the best ones to lose weight for myself, I read that there are some that boost your metabolism. Was curious about the views of other MFPs. My daughters are healthy where they are and any veggie or fruit I get into them is an improvement lol. I don't want to rely on anything but raw food for my weight loss. I am drinking a protein shake after a workout and/or for a snack but I would rather actually eat.0

Best ones for weight loss are cucumbers, celery both are diuretics grapefruit because it has certain enzymes that help metabolize fat............cherries are high in pectin and form a gel in the digestive tract.....filling you up........cruciferous veggies are bulky and fill you up.......loads of fiber to help elimination........gosh so much information on this, i could keep typing!
There are many great books on juicing/smoothies for weight loss....one of mine is called "The Everything Giant Book of Juicing"
Its just one of many reputable books on the subject. I say reputable, because there a loads of "unknown experts" on the subject also.0 -
If they like spaghetti, try hiding some veggies in a homemade sauce. I only make spaghetti sauce, I won't buy it. I started blending up some veggies and adding it to my sauce and my kids have no idea. Have you tried making the veggies they don't like in different ways? My son hated asparagus and Brussels and now I can get him to eat them because I tried different ways of cooking them until I found one he liked. The juicing will help! Make sure you add fruit so they taste the sweet and not the veggies. Heads up, I tried cabbage in a juice and it wasn't very good. It was the only thing we could taste. Best of luck to you!!0
