Apico...oral surgery

Has anyone on here ever had an apico done? It is where they have to cut open your gums and drill into the bone to remove the tip of the root. It is sort of like a reverse root canal from what I see. I am having it done later this week and just want to know what to expect pain wise and recovery time. Thanks.

I've had three or four of them. The after pain wasn't so bad. My oral surgeon suggested taking the pain medication once I got home before the novicane wore off, which I did, and that helped. If you wait until the novicane wears off before you take it, you will have to wait for the medicine to kick in. You will probably be sore the day after and have some swelling. Make sure you ice the area a few times when you get home. Ice helps a lot also. I went to work the day after my apico. I was slightly sore for a few days, but it wasn't overwhelming pain. I wasn't able to chew on the affected area for a few days. I hope I didn't scare you. All in all, the recovery wasn't too bad. You can send me a message if you have any questions. Good Luck - you'll be just fine.0

If it isn't any worse than a regular root canal I will be fine. I have only had one of those and it was on my front tooth (same tooth for the apico) and I didn't see what the big deal is about them. I just wish I knew why I am having such problems with it in the first place. The tooth appears to be fine and it never gave me problems before. It just was infected at the root tip but no one can seem to figure out why or how. I guess it is just one of those things.0

I had an apico twice on the same tooth. It was a back molar. I had a root canal first and then a few years later starting having problems with the tooth. I had an apico and then about a year later it started acting up again. I had another apico and about 6 months later it started acting up again. Finally, they decided to pull it out, and prior to pulling it out they discovered that I had a fracture in the root which was giving me all the problems. It did not show up on any x-rays at all. But that was my issue and may not be what is causing all your problems. Good Luck - You'll do fine.0
