Let me try and clarify.
First, they fed rodents a caloric surplus with a high fat diet. The group of rodents who were overfed with raspberry keytones, gained less weight than the rodents who were overfed w/o the keytones.
I am claiming that this does not indicate the efficacy of raspberry keytones as a WEIGHT LOSS AID in HUMANS.
Secondarily, have you looked at the dosing ranges and considered how this translates to doses in human beings, and compared that to the doses that are typically recommended on the supplement bottle?

The rats were fed 0.5 - 2 % (by mass of total food intake) raspberry ketones. How many grams of RK would you need to eat to get 2% RK as part of your diet? How much is in one dose of pills?

1 % (taking the middle value) of 4.7 lb is 0.047 lb. or about 0.75 oz.
1 oz ~ 25 g, so 0.75 oz ~ 18 g.
In other words: to get 1% of your diet as RK, you'd need to eat 18 g of RK.

To get 18 g, you'd need to take 36 capsules per day. So that $45 bottle is not even going to last you 3 days. And you'd need almost the entire bottle every day to get 2% RK in your diet. Sure seems like a lot of raspberry to me!0 -

Listen lady, this is my first time on these forums and I was just looking to get peoples input so if you don't like that I posted this thread, here's an idea. D O N T C L I C K O N I T.
Most of the people here who are saying it's a waste of money are trying to also look out for some newbly members who might stumble upon this thread and think that taking this BS will work better than calorie reduction and exercise. They don't, they're just a waste of money. Nobody's saying that you can't waste your money, we're just presenting FACTS for other members to see.

Last summer I lost over 30 pounds by running and cutting back on junk food. Along the way, I heard about Raspberry Keytones. Now, I'm a firm believer that you gotta work for what you want and a pill will NOT give you the results you want. However, I decided to try the keytones just to see if they would boost my weight loss even more. Although I'm not sure if they helped any with wight loss, I did notice that they made me feel better, more refreshed and above all — helped with bloating.
So now I'm hearing about the Cambogia and I'd like to see about taking it as well, not so much for the weight loss, but for the other benefits it might have.
My question is...do you think it would be ok to take both of these on a daily basis?
Overall, I'd say the general consensus is no, taking either or both is not okay.

Respectful and nice. Both are completely bogus and any effect they are having on you is pure placebo. Save your money and put it towards something useful and practical.. or even better save it up and then blow it on some great new clothes from losing weight through diet and exercise.0 -

My goodness this thread escalated quickly!! As you are a newbie, let me give you some advice about the MFP forums - never ask about supplementation. This community is dedicated to very pure fitness/food for weightloss as you have found out. In general, you will find the same few themes repeating themselves across every thread in this forum:
1) All supplements are a complete waste of money
2) The person above you is hot
3) Eating at the MFP weight-loss calorie deficit is not enough to fuel your body
4) Nothing but hard work and eating clean will be effective
5) You are not working out enough
6) You are not eating enough
7) Women need to lift heavy
Basically scramble the above and you'll have an answer for any question you might have!
Now for my two cents - While I agree for the most part with the listed topics above, I also believe in quality supplementation to enhance your already steady efforts. I love 5 hour energy pre-workout and CLA post workout. I have tried a few appetite suppressants and some are better than others, but mostly I use them very short term to help me get back on track after a vacation or trip etc. I have never tried Ketones or GC, but if you want to try out, do it! Even if it is a "waste of money" or just "placebo" if helps you get closer to your goal I don't think there is any reason to pass judgement. Just always pay close attention to how your body feels and make sure to do your online research as thoroughly as possible. Oh, and I know you are aware, but no supplement can replace your effort - you still need to keep up the healthy food and working out.

If my friend wanted to go have her pinkie toe surgically removed so that she could fit better in her shoes, I would probably discourage her from doing that. I would tell her that it would be a waste of money, and ask her why she didn't just go exchange the shoes for a different style or a different size. I might even laugh a little bit at the fact that the thought of cutting off her toe even crossed her mind. But, to me, that is still being supportive, because I am encouraging my friend to not go and waste her money on something ridiculous when she can have a better result taking the more sensible path.
So... Your argument is that taking dietary supplements is relatively comparable to having a body part surgically removed for fashion's sake?
These arguments aren't correlating at all. This has become similar to a flock of pigeons all fighting over a piece of bread, and it's disgusting. You're all saying the same thing in different ways. I've borrowed this from another post but:Let's say (and yes, this is a deliberately extreme and non-realistic example for the sake of people who don't understand the dangers of fad diets and weight loss pills/formulas) someone came on to this site and went "hey everyone, I just discovered this wonderful way to lose weight! I started snorting cocaine twice a day, and WOW is my metabolism revved!"
So you read that, and you go "well that can't be good" and you respond to the person going "I think you should re-think that idea, it's not healthy". But meanwhile five or six other people chime in going "great advice, thanks!" or "I've been doing that for six months and I've lost 200 pounds!" so then you start to worry that other people are going to read this and actually consider it a viable idea, and you start getting more emphatic in your negative responses "NO, that would be a really dumb thing to do, please don't!"
Then people start responding going "wow, what's your problem? This person is just trying to get/give advice, why are you being so negative?" and no matter how you try to explain that doing hard drugs is not a good way to go about it, there's more and more people either agreeing with the unsafe idea, or getting angry at you for disagreeing.
Meanwhile, a few people post links to drug dealers where newbies can buy their cocaine and jump on the bandwagon. At this point you're both horrified and disgusted and hoping to stop this before it goes any further, so you continue to insist it's a bad idea, but no one will listen and they just do it anyway.
Now imagine there's like 15 of these sorts of posts every day, and every time the same people keep trying to discourage people from harming themselves just for the sake of weight loss. And THAT's why people get snippy about these posts, and maybe come across as "rude" or "unsupportive".
The fact is, a lot of weight loss pills/supplements/drinks etc contain ingredients that are potentially harmful, and they are NOT well regulated in any country. Even if they do happen to cause temporary weight loss while harming your body because they're basically legal speed, that doesn't make it a good idea. At best, they're useless, at worst, they can literally kill you. People would be better off skipping the fad things, and just doing what everyone knows actually works, which is eating at a deficit and exercising, even though it takes a bit longer and is more work.
Also, a lot of the people who are disagreeing have been doing the fitness/weight loss thing for a long time, and many of them have tried their share of fad diets/weight loss formulas, with negative or short-lived results. So they're speaking from experience as well, and trying to keep people from making the same mistakes they did. They have wisdom and experience they're trying to share with those who have less. So if they get a little impatient repeating the same information every day to people who assume they're just being "unsupportive" or who are encouraging people to do harmful things to themselves well...it's understandable.0 -

I take them both with no adverse affects. They don't help with weight loss and I am not sure of other benefits, I bought them so I am taking them just in case.. 1 month later I am still stuck on my numbers..0

3- True - Very broad statement.....people that set to lose too much weight of a short period are not eating enough
4- A few fanatics give that advise.......95% dont.

So I only have read a few messages on the boards and both people have been so rude to the poster. Very sad as I used other boards and never seen just negative post. I will keep using the food logs but not sure the message boards are good. I went to this one because I too have seen both these items talked about and wondered about them.0

Although I'm not sure if they helped any with wight loss, I did notice that they made me feel better, more refreshed and above all — helped with bloating.
So now I'm hearing about the Cambogia and I'd like to see about taking it as well, not so much for the weight loss, but for the other benefits it might have.
My question is...do you think it would be ok to take both of these on a daily basis?
My goodness this thread escalated quickly!! As you are a newbie, let me give you some advice about the MFP forums - never ask about supplementation. This community is dedicated to very pure fitness/food for weightloss as you have found out. In general, you will find the same few themes repeating themselves across every thread in this forum:
1) All supplements are a complete waste of money
2) The person above you is hot
3) Eating at the MFP weight-loss calorie deficit is not enough to fuel your body
4) Nothing but hard work and eating clean will be effective
5) You are not working out enough
6) You are not eating enough
7) Women need to lift heavy
Basically scramble the above and you'll have an answer for any question you might have!
Now for my two cents - While I agree for the most part with the listed topics above, I also believe in quality supplementation to enhance your already steady efforts. I love 5 hour energy pre-workout and CLA post workout. I have tried a few appetite suppressants and some are better than others, but mostly I use them very short term to help me get back on track after a vacation or trip etc. I have never tried Ketones or GC, but if you want to try out, do it! Even if it is a "waste of money" or just "placebo" if helps you get closer to your goal I don't think there is any reason to pass judgement. Just always pay close attention to how your body feels and make sure to do your online research as thoroughly as possible. Oh, and I know you are aware, but no supplement can replace your effort - you still need to keep up the healthy food and working out.

So all the posts telling you they were a waste of money and do absolutely nothing were rude and unsupportive while the one post that condones their usage is like the most helpful response ever?
If you had read my original question, you'd know that I simply wanted to know if there was any harm to my body in taking both at once. Also she was helpful in her response, whereas most people are just laughing in my face about "wasting my money" I spent $10 on one bottle. $10. Big whoop. I work out and eat clean but as I took the RK, I did see a huge difference in the way I felt without changing my routine, so it was worth it to me
So to answer your question, no, the people that tell me it's a waste of money over and over again are not being helpful, but taramaclaren was0
