Physical Issues while Lifting.

I have had a torn rotary cuff for a few years now. Doctors won' do anything for it, but ever since I started to take testosterone. I started to feel better.

I would like to start lifting weights. About 10 to 20 lbs at most. I am just trying to tone.

I would like to know how to go about lifting when you have a mild torn cuff.

Different forms of lateral shoulder raises may work. And be sure to start very light (possibly no weight) and progressively load your weight each workout

I've torn both of mine. What do you mean the doctor won't do anything for it? You may not require surgery but you certainly should be doing physical therapy on it. If you lift with a mildly torn cuff you will have a severely torn cuff. Make a physical therapy appointment and they will give you the therabands and prescribe you an exercise routine and teach you to stretch it and how/when to apply ice and heat. They have some other high tech stuff they can do these day with electrodes and magnets. I wouldn't even think about lifting weights until you've at least done that. Supposedly only surgery can strengthen the shoulder though, they have to go in and reattach the tendon. I would get another opinion from a different orthopedic surgeon if it were me.

Ask a physical therapist. When my wife went through a torn rotator cuff, they had her do a lot of range of motion stuff, with no weights. She also did a lot of hand cycle work, which I suppose has some resistance to it.
