Just by chance, I decided to take a reading on my daughter's glucose monitor. I did this for 2 days and have had quite a high reading 9.4 on an empty stomach on one morning, and 9.7 this morning.
The last time I took a reading was about 2 years ago and it was 5.4 which is normal. I have lost 10 per cent of my body weight and thought if I did have a problem, it would have gone down.
I decided to try the my fitness pal because I can check the amount of sugar in foods I am eating. I would rather try to control it with diet, Any advice anyone can give me would be most appreciated. I need to lose about another 14 lb to get to my target weight, but how much sugar should I be eating each day?
I think I might make an appointment with my doctor to have a fasting blood test.
Thanking you in advance for your help

See a doctor
MFP isn't meant for medical advice. If you truly believe you have a life threatening medical concern (as DM is) it would be best to see a doctor.0 -
Hey lily! Nice to meet you! I have alot of diabetics in my family as soon as we
Got to the united states 2 members of my family go diabetes almost instantly (the food is poison)
My advice would be to research a nutrional ways to combat diabetes
Im not telling you to not go to the doctor. But most doctors now indays with the diabetes epidemic will perscribe you
Insulin and send you on your way. I suggest you read a book called 80/10/10 by dr graham. It talks about abfruit based diet
You might say well isnt fruit sweet and bad for diabetics. Im not a doctor but from my understanding
Simple sugars from fruits actually help combat diabetes. Which mainstream medicine fails to look at
Because it is an easy fix to eat alot more fruits and alot less ****. Sorry for the language
Anywho with that being said. Yea fruits. Let nutrition be thy medicine! -hippocretes good luck have fun. No stress. And I love you ♥0 -

Its best to see your Dr to get a diagnosis, then your diabeties specialist nurse can advise you on what sort of diet you should follow xx0

Thank you all for your replies jazzdspazz thanks for the advice, I will see if I can order the book. I don't really want to take medication if I can help it. I read online that coffee/caffeine can reduce glucose. I used to drink 15 cups a day, and then decided to give caffeine up and drink herbal teas so maybe that has pushed the reading up
Am going to make an appointment now to have a fasting blood test.
Hope you all have a lovely day xx0 -

Call your doctor's office and tell them you suspect that your blood sugar may be high. Schedule an appointment, but ask them to have your doctor order an A1C test for you PRIOR to your visit. Insist that this be done. The likelihood is that your doctor will tell you to continue to lose weight and schedule a follow-up visit / blood test. I will be very surprised if s/he prescribes drugs at this first visit.
If you are indeed diagnosed with diabetes, you should receive reading materials (or access to classes) that will teach you about the disease and how to deal with it. Diabetes management has very little to do with tracking your consumption of sugar.0 -

We are all doing what we can. The thin line between science and psudo science is quite thin. And misinformation is rampant. But you continue your journey and good luck . 1 love0

stop this stuff right now.
go and see your doctor. If you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes you will be sent to a dietitican and you will discuss the varied ways of controlling blood sugar, one of which is to eat fruit (sugars) with complex carbohydrates (ie at lunch time) and not snack between meals on sweet things.
Getting your weight down is a good move, lowering your sugar intake is a good move, but just you're measuring 9.5 doesn't mean you have diabetes. Go in and get bloods done. If the bloods come back scary, you will be sent for a glucose tolerance test and if that comes back scary you will be sent for a glucose challenge test: ask for the drink to be warm, it's almost unbearable cold (too sweet, and fizzy. If you get it warm it's not fizzy and you can just down it.)
there is no worse thing you can do for your own health than to go to an online gaggle of strangers and ask for advice usually given by professionals after 20 years either studying or practising in their field. Your doctor is NOT an idiot. Nor are all the dieticians out there looking after diabetics.
Don't buy any silly books and don't listen to any silly fears and boogie stories. your doctor is the place to go, not the internet!0 -

You can help your symptoms by eating less carbohydrate of all sources.

I had gestational diabetes when pregnant with my son and my readings where similar to yours. Only the doctor can help you with proper glucose Tolerance Tests (GTTs). Go make an appointment and good luck. I tried controlling mine with diet but unfortunately I had to go onto insulin. thankfully it went again once my son was born0

Pseudo-science = a guy selling a book that claims that mainstream medicine ignores nutritional ways of dealing with diabetes. Nothing could be further from the truth.0 -
Dude she asked for advice. And I gave it to her before being attacked for something that helped me lol. I remeber why I stopped comming here. It is filled with people driven by ego. Disclaiming something to be false before not having any knowledge of the information I provide is not science. It is the reason religion and science is being blurred. Because common sense is hard to comeby and when it is stated. There are those so conditioned by there beliefs and lack of emotional stabability that tey attack anytbing that is not their views. I now remebered why I stopped comming here. Your diet is wrong. And it made to profit from your sixkness. Which is the reason we are plagued by illness. And dis-ease. P.S the guy who wrote thst book is actually a doctor. S9me doctors have diffrent opinions. The bad ones are those that have no common sense. I remebered. Why I stopped comming here and just decided to do me. Because of people like you who reside in mfp. And create a hostile enviorment for discussion. I bid you adiue sir. And may you find truth in your endeavors0
