super curvy but thinks lifting will make her bulky

I have a female friend that has measuremnts of 38E-30-50 who wants to start exercising. She thinks that lifting weights will make her too bulky. I explained to her that not only will lifting contribute to a more leaner/tighter physique, but it will also enhance the curves she already has; along with helping her to drop some unwanted pounds. And most importanly her diet and understanding how calories/macros work will make a big impact as well. What do you all think about this?

I agree that lifting will help her maintain nice curves while losing weight.

Tell her she would need to commit 5000-6000 cals a day for a couple of years, combined with a dedicated lifting program to get "bulky" naturally. And even then, good luck.

Many examples here on MFP of women's results with heavy lifting that you can reference. It sounds like you have already explained it pretty well to her.

Lifting heavy, while eating at a caloric deficit will have her losing weight and gaining muscle. Which for a beginner in the gym is no problem. But if you have lifted weights for a while and have a lot of LBM, lifting weights on a deficit will cause you to lose fat and muscle

And she would probably need to artificially supplement with steroids to get the required anabolic growth to get a bulky more androgenic look .

Women genetically just aren't designed to develop muscle mass like men without resorting to Steroids, heck even for men it's difficult to get a really large and cut physique unless they're taking something or have the genetics for it so if I was a woman I would have no concerns about lifting making me bulky because it just is not remotely likely to happen

You're right of course, but don't waste your time trying to UN-convince a female she won't get bulky. I've wasted enough time with people with that mindset. "Ain't nobody got time fo dat." When they give me that, "But I was told... But I don't wanna get bulky..." I shrug and tell them, "Well then do whatever the **** you want. Don't ask me anymore." And go cry to somebody else. LOL I've tried to help several peeps... some NEVER learn.

I always ask for proof... like - who do you know who got bulky doing that?

    or I say

me- do I look bulky just standing here?

no not so much- yet all my lifts are body weight or higher... so try again.

Tell her NO WAY. I've lost almost 70 lbs. I had an amazing hourglass figure before and I still have it.

I LOVE my curves and I haven't lost them now that I'm at a healthy BMI :)
