Couple of questions? Weight stalled

1. Is there a test to determine BMR? Where is such test conducted? Covered by insurance?
2. I lost 20 lbs in my first 28 days. However, since that time I have not lost weight. 3 weeks at the same low. I did not aim for a certain number but logged as a tracking tool in the first month. Would you drop your calories from the average you lost weight at before like 50-100 daily?

I eat restricted paleo. Had a higher paleo day on Sunday but did not cheat on food groups. Workout 11 times a week. P90x/insanity at night, and a run/walk of the dogs in the morning.

5-8" male
36 years old
235

I do use a food scale using grams. Drink water with lemon juice.
No dairy, no breads, no pasta, no legumes, no soda, no coffee, no cheating on food types, no sugars or artificial sugars, no potatoes. I am not crashing

Carbs from vegetables and fruit only. Don't salt food.

I understand first month is unique, but don't want to waste time if a test would help remove the guess work of a deficit.

3 weeks is too short to conclude anything definitive about a plan you are working with. New excercise or increased excercise can also cause water retention.
"not aiming for a certain number" is a problem, because it seems like you have no plan (correct me if I'm wrong)

Use a calculator to give you an estimate on your BMR and TDEE and goal cals.

then strictly log for 4-6 weeks and evaluate:
did I lose my expected pounds?
if not (and you are sure you logged correctly) you can adjust your calorie intake accordingly

Your first month sticks out so much because you cut out most of your carbs. which is your choice, thats fine, just remember it involves a lot of water weight.

Oh and this for another reason why 3 weeks is too short:

BMR can be tested but no it wouldn't be covered by insurance I suspect as it is not necessary for your health etc.

If you are not in a deficet you wont lose weight...it's that simple. It doesn't matter if you are strict paleo...you can gain weight eating paleo pretty easily actually...

Even if you got the test it's still guess work as BMR is only one part of the equation...TDEE is the number you need, that is your maitenance...then you subtract off that to get your deficet.

If after 1 month you are still weighing the same...congrats you found maitenance...now take off 500 calories from that and you are good to go....

BTW I looked at your diary....and it doesn't look like you weigh everything...choosing the correct entries is as important as weighing everything.

I think what Stef was alluding to is there are a lot of "generic" entries in your diary. Such as:

    - fried eggs
    - generic pork shoulder
    - generic ribs
    - generic chicken

Essentially, you really want more accuracy and use the brand names. A cut of meat from one brand can vastly different from another.

yup that's it..along with checking nutrtional values in the entries your using...my PM explains some of the entries I see that are off...
