OK, I know I'll gain weight during pregnancy but I gained 10lbs in a month and now I've gained another 5lbs! My doctor told me I can't gain anymore weight and probably thinks I'm sitting around eating taco bell and icecream all day not working out but I'm not. I was very, very fit before pregnancy. I've maintained the same intensity when it comes to my workout routine. I an eating different , but that's because I was eating only salads, veggies and fruits before pregnancy. I'm watching my calorie, Carb and sugar intake and making sure I'm only eating 200 - 400 calories more a day (if I'm hungry enough) like my doctor said. I don't eat sweets often, I've only craved sweets during pregnancy, but I hate them so I never eat a lot I do PPPT on Fri. mornings and then go to the gym on my own after work Mon. - Fri. Maybe it's because since I've been pregnant they moved me to a desk job when previously I was doing something more tacticle? Or maybe I'm really eating the wrong foods? Too much milk and cheese? I don't know, any mommy's thatcan help? All I know is I can't gain anymore weight and I already have!

It's kind of scary to me that your Dr would ever say 'stop gaining' during pregnancy - the baby has to grow! You HAVE to get bigger between now and when the baby is born. Unless you're obese (which it doesn't look like), you can't replace 10lbs of fat with 10lbs of baby/fluid/blood in however many more weeks (it looks like you have 10 more weeks to go, but just guessing). Your body will grow as much as it needs to grow. As long as you take in healthy foods, the caloric number honestly should not matter right now. You need fat to feed the baby, you need nutrients for yourself and the baby. You need to gain weight.
Christ, I was actually obese while pregnant, and classified high-risk (for other reasons) and no Dr ever freaked me out about calories and dieting!0 -
I remember being told that 'eating for two' was more correctly like 'eating an extra banana'. So it's not like you're going overboard in that respect.
If your Dr is serious about it, show him excatly what you're eating, and what exercise you're doing, and ask him to look into the sudden gain. Depends on how far along you are, too, as your body changes and the little one gets fatter.
At my heaviest (pregnant with twins) I was nearly 250lb. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and once I got that under control I did lose a few lbs. Note that I was about 180lb when I fell pregnant and I am 5'9" ish (176cm) so a little heavier than I had been previously.
But my point is, not ONCE was my weight gain queried or mentioned. I would be wondering what your Dr's angle is.0 -
Isn't the overall range for a singleton pregnancy 25-35 lbs? (I had twins too. For a woman pg with twins starting out in the "normal" weight range, the most research-based rec was a gain of 37-54 lbs. I aimed for 40 and gained 54. :P But hey, I was in range!) I gained a pretty steady 2 lbs/wk from 12w on and did have a week (Orlando trip!) where I gained 7 lbs in a week. I agree with the first pp though. With a twin pregnancy, weight gain is especially important since it's associated with lower risk of pre-term labor, low birth weight and other things twins are at risk for so I was more focused on gaining enough than not gaining too much, but your diet and exercise habits sound VERY reasonable so either your tracking is way off or your body's just doing what it needs to do. There can be quite a bit of weight gain with extra fluids during pregnancy, too, so that may be a factor if you seem to be gaining faster than what your tracking would indicate.
I also agree that it would be wise to explain to your dr what your diet and exercise routine is and see if there might be some medical reason for the unexpected extra weight gain, just to rule out anything concerning.0 -
If your dr is concerned, explain the situation to him/her and ask the dr to recommend a dietician, there are ones specialising in pregnant women and meal plans to help with diabetes, pre-eclampsia etc. 15 lbs total sounds on the lower side of normal, so you should still have some room for weight gain, assuming you are not still too early in the pregnancy.0

When I was pregnant, I was obese and so I was careful to gain only 17 lbs because if I gained more than the healthy amount for my "obese" rating (11-20 lbs) I couldn't a waterbirth. (I didn't end up with one, but I am glad I had the option and wasn't DQ'd for my weight). My midwives were encouraging of my desire for a healthy pregnancy, but they didn't harp on me about it. I gained weight in fits and spurts -- it wasn't linear at all and the times I gained weight I couldn't have told you what, if anything, I had done differently than the weeks when I gained no weight at all.
Here are the things that concern me about your post:
1. You mentioned in another post that you didn't start showing until you were 28 weeks and in your profile picture you are definitely showing -- so is that a fairly recent pic? If so, then you do not look obese and your pregnancy gain seems proportionate to your degree of pregnancy.
2. What's your overall gain? Unless the 10 lbs and 5 lbs gains are on top of another 30 lbs already gained, this doesn't seem severe enough for your doc to be going so dramatic over it.
3. As long as your blood pressure and glucose are okay, I just don't think you should be too worried about it this late in the game. Some women put on crazy amounts of water weight while pregnant. When the baby is born, the water weight disappears too. Ask your doc to take extra glucose tests and have you come in for extra blood pressure checks if he's so worried. If there's something else on his mind, then ask him what the concern is.0 -
I've gained 25lbs total and I am 37w right now, (and the picture is 34w). My doctor and my pregnancy weight gain calculator told me that was an accessive ammount of weight gain. I'm in the normal range for weight gain pregnancy.0

are you in the military? and if so are you seeing a military doctor? If so go to a civilian doctor...if you can. I found while pregnant in the military that they were knobs and more concerned with actual military guidelines than health.
25lbs in total for a pregnancy is not bad at all...0 -
That is crazy that ur doctor has told u not to gain anymore weight every women is different when it comes to weight gain during pregnancy0
-
Yes, I am in the Military, so I could definitely see them doing that.0
-
Oh hun, it sounds like you're gaining fine. I gained 50 lbs with both my kids (that's excess). I wouldn't worry yourself. Eeek. Almost there!0
-
Tell your doctor to shove it. 25-35 lbs is normal and you're almost there. Just keep eating healthy foods and a healthy amount and don't worry about the weight gain. You'll have a whole new set of worries in 3 weeks, so save your energy! ;-)0

Yup..if you can request a civi doctor I would...they are more reasonable...when I was in and pregnant (20 Years ago) they made me stop PT all together...cripes...they really haven't a clue most of the time...0 -
25lb gain total at the end of pregnancy...your doctor sounds like a tool bag. Unless your blood pressure is high, I wouldn't worry. Military doctors can suck with specialties, I know, my husband was in the military and I referred out to a civilian doctor every time because of their crap. You look great, 25lbs is NORMAL!!! Hope you have an easy delivery and enjoy that baby!0
-
Ok, great, thanks everyone, I was getting worried because 25lbs sounded normal to me? The last thing I want to stress about, especially post-pardum is my weight. I was going crazy watching my pounds this last trimester.0

I actually want to punch your doctor. At 37w and only 25lbs gained? That's AWESOME! You are doing great and in the home stretch. Congratulations on your soon bundle of joy!0
