My fiance and I are up for upgrades on your phones. We were looking at the galaxy s5. The lady said shes only heard good things so far. She told us about the heart rate monitor and showed us how they work. I was wondering if I got one could I use it during my walks and maybe my low impact cardio just to compare to my fitbit flx readings.
Anyone have one? Does it work for that? Does it come with a health app? We are planing in going Saturday and getting our upgrades done so these were just a few questions I thought I would ask to see if anyone has experience with them and what you recommend. Thanks!

I have it and use it.
It is a bit touchy to use when you are in motion, so you have to pause whatever you are doing.
It seems fairly accurate and a nice little app.
I have been able to get a better idea of my resting HR.0 -
So its best used for resting but works decent for workouts then? I just mainly want to use it as a secondary to my flex. Im thinking that between the two I should be able to get a pretty accurate view of what I burn.0

Sorry, late again.
I can get a decent read when I am walking as long as I am keeping my hand fairly steady. Once I am moving around too much it comes back completely wrong.0 -
I have the s5 and it has not worked that well for me. You have to sit VERY still for it to pick up your heart rate. Its very frustrating when trying to reach your target rate.0

I'm one of those horrible people who stick my phone down my bra (I know, I know, I shouldn't....became a habit when I was pregnant and never had pockets....) so I wonder if that will help lol. It can't do anywhere0

The S5's monitor is designed to take snapshots of a person's resting heart rate ... not during workout heart rate monitoring.0

if you have an android phone already try out the following app, it does the same thing (as far as i can tell)
Instant Heart Rate by AZUMIO INC
will give you at least an idea as to what to expect
i've used this app and compared to a doctors heart rate monitor and its pretty accurate for standing heart rate but once you get moving and try and do it it won't work you need to be fairly stationary0 -
You could get a Garmin or Timex HRM strap (among some other ANT+ brands) to use for exercising. I do this with my S4 and Timex GPS watch using the S4 and the Endomondo app as a backup to my Timex (and for music).0

The S5 is also BLE capable. I use a Polar H7 with it.0

I have a fitbit flex. I just wanted to see how much it differs from a hrm when im doing cardio thats all.0

Accurately calculating calories burned during cardio requires continuous measurement, not the snapshots the S5's built in monitor provide. Your fitbit only counts steps ... if your cardio consists of anything besides walking and running, it's calculations are off because it does not accurately track those types of movements.0
