Is there really a huge difference in protein shakes? What I mean is can I use the $15.00 tub from Walmart or do I really need to spend $60 on a tub from a specialty store?

    Ingredients.

    Whey is the most common.
Whey isolate is best. Whey concentrate is OK. Isolate stuff costs more. Usually more protein per calorie.
Then there's casein, egg white - which are good, but suck to mix.
then there's soy, which is garbage, and should be taken by no one ever.

There's hemp, or brown rice, if you're vegan...

Then there's the 'other' ingredients you might want to avoid. Like carrageenan, which can be nasty on your digestive system.

Then you have to be able to trust that the shake really has the protein it says it does. Sticking to name brands helps.

I like Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard. It's about $10-12/lb for whey.
Truetein is the best I've had, but it mixes like cement, and is $15/lb.

Woahhhh hey now, don't be hating on the soy, it's tummy friendly as far as lactose goes.

Shakeology from beach body has a nice flavor and is very complete. I have the vanilla because you can add tons to different flavors to change it up. No bitter after-taste. The strawberry isn't that good, in my opinion.

Use almond milk instead. It isn't awful for you.

    And don't get shakeology.

With all of the research and information out there I'm surprised people still consume soy products, minus the exceptions of course.

As far as whey, there are other, better options than BF within the same or similar price-point but it's fine, really.
