Shakeology/Protien Shakes

I am new to the protein shakes/shakeology. However what I do know is that it can get expensive. Is there something comparable to Shakeology I can use but buy locally? Help!!

I use that too...in the single pack form because it is easier for me to just grab and go at work with my blender ball. Did you have any success in finding anything out?? I am running low and will need to make a purchase soon, but am trying to cut back on the expense. Thanks!

Depends really. I use the sun warrior vanilla rice protein powder. I used to use shakeology too but at that price per month even with their discounted coach pricing it still was costly. Now, my husband and both can get our own 2 lb container of protein powder of choice for less then what I was paying for one shakeology container.

I use Cytosport 100% Whey Protein Powder. It tastes great, mixes well and is available at Costco. Hope this helps.

I have to go really cheap right now and go with the Kroger brand whey/soy protein powder for $10 a canister ($1.10 per serving). It's not shabby. I get the vanilla so it is easy to blend into a fruit/veg smoothie.

Shakeology isn't a protein shake. It's marketed as a Meal Replacement (MRP), an overpriced one at that.

A Protein shake is exactly that, a protein supplement, meant to help you meet your protein goal for the day. Also, what goes with that is feeling fuller longer.

I don't/won't advocate an MRP as they don't help you understand portioning, but they are all over the place. GNC has their own brand.

Well I have been a vegan for a few years and have tried a lot of different proteins. The Sun warrior is a good protein, just get the sprouted version. Sprouted grains are easier for your body to digest and you can utilize the protein more effectively. ALSO, Healthforce (and all their products) Vanilla (and they have chocolate) is an awesome protein too. That one is naturally sprouted and bioavailable to your system. They use polar magnets to kill off unhealthy organisms, instead of irradiating it.

You don't need a lot of protein at one moment, as the body can only truly utilize about 24 grams and hour max (even though I have heard of body builders and athletes that have pushed this to about 30 grams.. again depends on your performance, digestion and sourcing). So if you put any veggies, fruit or anything in your shake with that protein, you have to take that in account too.
Also there is GARDEN OF LIFE that is sprouted and it has the full amino acid profile.

There are more, but I won't babble on!

    As far as Whey protein,:

SFH is one of the best because the cows are eating grass and no hormones or heavily processed. Its the paleo approved of the all natural world. Also, its a concentrate and so yes it has more fat and carbs added, but the protein molecule is something that your body can digest, since it has the added carbs & fat that is normal in nature.

Yes it does have lactose, so if your lactose and tolerant then no you can't use it.

Also BLUEBONNET has their whey, and its an isolate, but its 26 grams per scoop and again no hormones or anything like that. They do have their "extreme edge" line which i their performance line. They have a pre workout, post workout protein and other bells and whistles. they are certified to where they have no harmful chemicals that would be banned in a sport.

i cant remember the organization for that! Sorry!

I personally don't like shakeology, or anything like that, as I feel they have more fillers then a protein source needs. I understand every now and then, but on a regular basis, your body knows what is best!

All these proteins you can find at Whole Foods and other stores, and so they range in prices. I have personally about 6 months of protein in my pantry (Garden of life and Health Force) because I found them on sale. Hope this helps all!

I do like that distinction! Meal Replacements are now the "in" thing because people don't always want to cook or really know how to eat healthy. So they make a MRS and try to eat healthy at least one meal a day.

I do think they have a place for certain people, BUT I used to have to explain the difference constantly to people when I worked at Whole Foods. Majority of the time people would do a meal replacement shake and then eat something too!

    Not how it works :p

My "meal replacement" shake is a coconut milk/coconut oil smoothie with a few berries and organic yogurt. Keeps me full (literally) ALL day.

Meal replacement shakes are great but if you want to lose weight you have to take in food and calories.
Replacement shakes arent ment to replace all meals all day, they are intended to give you vitamins you would
normally get from a healthy meal. If you don't eat, you won't lose, so if losing is your goal, make sure you
    eat too.

I personally use Optimum Nutrition or Dymatize, but just the whey protein, not a meal replacement one. Meaning each scoop of powder is about 100-120 calories and around 25 grams of protein and not much else. Check out bodybuilding.com. You can research and compare different brands, types of powders, flavors, and all that, plus they're cheaper then GNC.

I've been using Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey in vanilla ice cream. I bought the 2 pound container for around $30, and it's got somewhere around 30 servings. Dymatize is usually a little cheaper, but they were out of the flavor I wanted at the time.

I drink shakeology and love it. It is easy and quick to make as well as more nutrient rich than others.
I have tried spark and Dymatize and didn't like the taste.

I have heard and read a lot about soy protein not being good for testosterone levels.

Spark is an energy supplement , although Advocare does have their own protein supplements and meal replacement bars/drinks
