I use Endomondo. I never really had a problem with it. I generally use it for the challenges they have.

Endomondo is a bit over generous with calorie burn but useful for maps, speeds etc. Haven't used the other app but I wear a FitBit which I think beats them all if it's all round activity you want to track rather than just exercise sessions.

i used endomondo for quite a while, but it was kind of buggy (at least on my phone) and would drop GPS signal a lot. they also took away a lot of the cool free features and that lessened the appeal.

for the past 6 months i've been using runkeeper, and haven't had any issues - really easy interface, and syncs with MFP. while it's primarily a running app, you can log other types of workouts. I've found that it's about 1/10 of a mile off in the distance it records (compared with fancier garmin watches). i decided to upgrade to the pro account ($20/year) because it includes live tracking and it allows friends/family to see your progress during a race.

Runkeeper. I haven't seen a need to pay for the pro version.

I'm a longtime Endomondo user. I like it, but lately I'm having a little flakiness with keeping a connection to my HRM. More critically though, it seem Endomondo might be overestimating calories burned by a substantial amount (approx 20%). RunKeeper, MapMyRun and the cardio equipment at the gym, all estimate substantially less.

I've found MapMyFitness to be unstable and has consistent sync problems on both iOS and Android. I also find the web site to be very busy and not particularly intuitive.

I use Endomondo, find it pretty stable but as others it includes BMR in calorie estimates so it tends to read a bit high. The premium features make analytics pretty powerful in it, so it's useful for looking at performance improvement.

I use Runkeeper in parallel, find that to be pretty good but the main benefit is the ecosystem of other apps for that.

I've tried Runtastic but found it killed my battery in fairly short order and it's got a very aggressive upselling policy. The web site is again very busy.

Another alternative would be Strava, can't comment as I've not used i.

I also use Runkeeper (free version) and find it does everything I want or need it to.
I can track a lot of other activities as well.

I use Runtastic Pro, a normal membership. They are quite in your face on the website regarding upgrading to Gold, but it isn't necessary. I mostly use the smartphone app anyway and when there have been GPS problems it would have happened with all other apps, too; smartphones do that. I haven't had a killed battery due to the app yet. Its user interface is really nice and easy to use.

If you want something more stable as far as GPS goes, choose a Garmin or such.

. I haven't had a killed battery due to the app yet.

For a similar session I can use Runkeeper and Endomondo alongside one another for up to three hours, on a GalaxyS4, Runtastic doesn't last for an hour. Lots of tree cover, but that doesn't explain the significant difference in survivability.

Good to know once I hit the longer distances! Thanks for replying.

It's not out of the question that the pro version has a battery saver capability; that's one of the endomondo premium features

After one bad experience of Runtastic losing a 8 miler and not liking the website anyway I've retired it.
