low sodium

I need help finding low sodium meats to make sandwiches. It seems everything has so much salt I thought soup would be and alternative but they are salty. I'm getting burnt out on salads.

Is there a reason you need to go low sodium? High blood pressure or something? If not then don't really worry about sodium.

But when you go to the deli section, all the packaged meats that are low sodium will be marked. Just choose from those.
  • Thank-you I do have high blood pressure and kidney disease so salt is a big factor for me.

I'd like to find low sodium sandwich meats too. Doc put me on a low sodium diet for Meniere's, but finding that so many foods have sodium that doesn't come natural in the food items.

Sometimes you just want a good sandwich! salt in cheese, bread, and deli meat, as well as condiments.

Sliced turkey is a good option. For cost savings, you can buy a turkey breast, bake it yourself and slice. I've not found many sandwich meats marked low sodium unfortunatlely but there are a couple. There are quite a few low sodium soups available where we live too. You could also make your own using low sodium chicken stock as the base.

Not sure if this is an option for you as the start up cost is more than just going to the market for some deli meats but.......you can always by a meat slicer and just cook meats at home and slice them up after the have cooled down. This way at least you can control what goes in the seasoning. Roast beef is the easiest to make, smoked chicken/turkey is also! I also have to watch my sodium....1 half piece of bacon or 1 bite of fried chicken/couple of regular salted potatoes chip while make me seriously ill.
