Diet and Medication

I'm going to be on Medication where I won't be able to eat half the things I use to be able to eat. I'm quite anxious about it. I'm on a cocktail medication at the moment and some of it has contributed to serious weight gain. When I was put on 20mg of Olanzapine I began putting weight on, I started exercising more and eating less. Alas the weight kept piling on, and in the space of 4 months I've gained 3 stone.

So first of all, my mother has allergies to soy, and i went to get checked out and I have a big wheat intolerance. but I will be taking Phenelzine. Now Phenelzine has interactions with certain foods. Basically any food that has tyramine in it can cause hypertensive crisis, or I've heard it can also cause seizures.

So apparently I'm not allowed to eat aged cheeses (cheddar, camembert, brie, gouda, roquefort, parmesan, romano, edam), aged/dried/fermented/salted/smoked/pickled/processed meats (includes bacon, summer sausage, liverwurst, hot dogs, corned beef, pepperoni, salami, bologna, ham, mortadella, pickled or dried herring), banana peel, beef/chicken liver (stored, not fresh), bouillon cubes, commercial gravies, concentrated yeast extracts, fava beans, Italian green beans, broad beans, fermented bean curd, homemade yeast-leavened bread, orange pulp, overripe or spoiled fruits, packaged soups, red wine, sauerkraut, sherry, snow pea pods, sourdough bread, soy sauce, soybeans, soybean paste/miso, tofu, tap beer and ale, vermouth.

So I feel a little limited, and quite bewildered. I'm not sure what to do. I generally have granola for breakfast everyday, and I usually have some sesame snap seeds. I don't eat chocolate anymore, but I live on Coffee and Tea. I have about 3 coffees and 5 teas a day.

for lunches it's usually smoked salmon, pork, or ham sandwiches. Dinner varies but its mainly an english meal. Beef, mashed sweet potato, asparagus, broccolini/broccoli, cauliflower, peas, gravy, and a yorkshire pudding. That is quite the norm. As for snacks I'll have sesame snap seeds, some honey greek yoghurt. I'll eat grapes, or macadamia nuts to put me on. A muesli bar is a daily thing too.

so what could I do? I'm open to suggestions.

If your doctor has prescribed medication for you then he/she should refer you to a qualified dietitian to help you structure a weight loss plan that works with the medication.

I was sent to a hospital dietician a few years back. She told me to stop eating potatoes and to have a max calorie intake of 500. She also said. Calories matter - you didn't see a fat person in Belsen concentration camp.

I suggested she either retrained or found another job. Yes she was skinny. Very skinny. But not toned.

Having said that, there are a lot of good nutritionists out there who will specialise in this field and know exactly what kind of advice to give. You might also find a few forums dedicated to it too?
