I have a holiday in 4 weeks in which my goal is to have lost another 6/7 pounds and toned up my body fat. I can definitely see a difference but I want faster results.

I have been eating around 1000 cals a daybut cheating a bit on weekends.
350 cals 3/4 times a week on the tredmill
and combining cardio and strength training for 30 minutes before breakfast 5 days a week.

I really want to speed up the process and get my results for in a months time - ANY ADVICE?

Currently 5'1 9 stone 5

Thanks!

6/7 lbs at your weight in that time period is pushing it, you may want to try for only 1 lb/week

you're eating to little, 1000 a day is too low and your exercising on top of that. up the intake so your deficit is 500 cals, right now your deficit is somewhere around 1000 through the week.

the best advice i can give you is be patient. there are way to many posts on this site where people ask how to speed up the process, when weight loss is not a fast process at all, it takes time.
in the meantime however, start lifting weights. you'll see a better visual improvement over the 4 weeks if you move your deficit to 500 and start lifting than if you were to actually lose those 6/7 lbs. you'll tone up your muscles, which is what makes most people look much better

    yep as BigT noted

    1000 calories is extremely low.

6 - 7 pounds in 4 weeks is kinda pushing it.....but you may make it.....
    Prolly be mostly water weight....

You can't tone up body fat.
You can lose fat, and develop your muscle, so you will get a "toned" / lean look.....

But you are better off to do it over time and be patient.....there really aren't quick fixes to this stuff.
  • thanks for the advice! do you have any on what weights to do? I go to the gym but I have no idea where to begin with the equipment, I work out with dumbells when I do the 30 min cardio and strength training but I feel its toning my arms slightly not my stomach and that's what I want to tone up the most!

If you are going for fat/weight loss.
You will want to do free weights, full body workouts.....making use of compound exercises....
i.e. squats, dead lifts, bench press, chin/pull ups, dips (weighted if possible), shoulder press (over head shoulder press)

    Google StrongLifts 5x5
Good basic program for starting out.
Then go toYouTube to see videos on how to perform the exercises properly and with good form.

I'm practically the same height and weight as you- 5'2" and 9st 4lbs, down from 10st 10 lbs.

One piece of advice if you have no idea where to begin: go on youtube and search for videos of Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. I bought the DVD, but you really don't need to if you're exercising at the gym. She has some really easy to follow weight exercises that combine multiple parts of the body in one workout. If you're just starting out, take a look at those.

HOWEVER... keep in mind that muscle is more dense than fat, so the number on the scales may go up even if you're losing fat/inches and getting more toned. So, if you end up putting on a few pounds (especially right at the beginning), don't get discouraged. Your muscles initially hang on to water to heal from the weight training. Stick with it for at least 2 weeks. And... take progress pics. They will help you stay motivated even if the scales look like you're going in the wrong direction. I went on a weight training kick for a few weeks and I lost 1 lb but definitely had a noticeable difference as far as fitness level (check one of my profile pics if you don't believe me)

    More advice:

    1. I'm practically the same height and weight as you, and I try to eat at LEAST 1400 cal/day. Less than that and your body hangs on to fat more because you're in starvation mode. Last month, I lost 7lbs in 1 month alone and I ate 1200-1400 calories almost consistently.

    2. You can't "spot treat" your weight loss. Trust me, if I could, I'd have a six pack by now!! The best things you can do for making your stomach look a little more lean though are cardio, weights, and eating clean. I find that bread, soda, and pizza make me bloat out like crazy so I try to avoid them except on weekends.

    3. Drink a lot of water- it'll help with flushing your system.

    4. Stick to a low sodium diet. Sodium will make you hang on to water, making you look and feel heavier (water weight)
