Gained 12 pounds in one week!!?!

Please help me! I went on a crash diet of 500 calories for the past one and a half months. I KNOW it was wrong of me to do, but I went from 140 pounds to 122, which I was happy with at 5'5.5". And not everyday I ate 500, somedays I'd eat 1600, 2000, etc. I decided to boost my calorie intake to 1,400 because I knew I couldn't live on that forever. Last Tuesday (I weighed 122) and today I weighed myself and I was a whopping 134! I know I ate food and stuff today, but this morning I weighed 132! I haven't eaten nearly enough calories to gain that much weight, because 3,500 EXTRA calories is a pound. And I've only been eating about 1,400. Is this water weight? Will my weight even out? Please help, I feel terrible and I am thinking about just going back down to the 500 (no matter how bad it is). Because I have a vacation this weekend, and I was loosing my weight for this vacation.

REad the link above. Glycogen/water-weight. Eat at a reasonable level and stay off the scale for 2 weeks.

You did not eat 42,000 above your TDEE. That 12 lbs is water and/or undigested food. Have you have regular bowel movements? Are you nearing your menstrual cycle? Did you do any exercising that your body is not used to?

I'm looking and agreeing, seeing too many "cheap" foods (they may be low calorie, but also low fiber, not very nutritious). I would recommend switching out what stats you are tracking to include Fiber.

I would switch out your cereals (like cookie crisp) for ones that are high in fiber and protein. Add a 1/2 cup of fresh berries. Increase your eating of fresh/frozen veggies and fruits and get ride of the processed snacks. Anything high in processing is also likely to be high in sodium.

Drink plenty of water and try to chill on the carbs. It'll fall off as easily as it got on you.
I gained six pounds after a week of bingeing and booze but it didn't stay for more than three days. Weight fluctuates ALL THE TIME. Don't let the number on the scale scare you.

I'm so sorry your body is that out of whack! 500 calories a day is just so bad for you. I'll bet you feel like a new person after you start a sensible diet and your body levels out normally. Best of luck!

So you know what happens when you starve yourself? Your body drops weight and you feel or so great cause you lost it right? Well then you start to eat more and you not only eat more you are eating things that are high in carbs which turns to sugar. Your body starts hoarding the new food cause it is thinking just in case she starves again it has back up. Low calorie diets sound good in the head but to be honest it just does not work out in the end and you will never benefit from it cause your body is smarter then you lol. Try to eat more veggies low in carbs and drink water and just plain work out for about a week and your weight will decrease. Good luck to you!

Not only did you deplete most of you glycogen stores but you also lost lean body mass along with fat. 500 calories is very detrimental to your health. You need to eat at a reasonable deficit and lift weights. Your body is healing itself now.

Crash diet = crashed system. You are speaking eating disorder territory with 500 cals a day. Forget looking good for your vacation, take better care of your body and life. Please do not keep up 500 cals. I do think you might want to make a trip to your doctor and talk to them about what you have been doing. I also believe you should do something you an keep up for the rest of your life. If that means eating cookie crisp, more power to you! If you want to lose weight and keep it off, there is no fast fix. Just eat at a deficit, probably .5lbs a week, for what you have to lose, and exercise some. Good luck and relax, your vacation should be a joyful time, not a stressful one.
