People inputting only calorie content to database!

This is so annoying!

As somebody who also tracks my fats/proteins it gets more than a bit frustrating having to search through multiple entries to find one with all the relevant info input. I'm considering editing every incomplete one I come across and halving the calories....

Yes, it's a bit nippy but you can edit or add your own :)

It's very annoying, as you don't want to be eating 2000 calories of fat!! Anyways, since the db is sort of regulated by the community I guess it is up to us to edit the entries, although I wonder if MFP could do some work on the back end themselves.

I just wish people wouldn't share their entries if they don't put all the info.

I know I'm going to have some snacks today that I can only find the calorie info for, but I won't share it.

When I do not have the time to MFP I take a (silent) photo of the nutritional facts of the food. Once home I can look for a suitable match on the db.

I use a different site for recording all nutrients. Anytime a data base relies on individual's input, stuff hits the fan, and mayhem ensues.

Not defending it, as it is extremely annoying, but sometimes you cant always find the other nutritional data. I know when I have bought things from supermarket delis there is no package to give nutritional information and the companys website only tends to give calorie values, if they even provide that.

Id rather know and be able to log the calories of something even if it didnt come with other macro values. Better than nothing right?

To avoid too much of this I always check the nutritional information before I add anything to my diary. Once Ive added it once I know its the correct one.

I was wondering about this the other day. I had to add a food to the database and on my phone, I didn't realize I had to scroll down to add the other info, I hit next and it completed the entry with only calorie count. I looked for a way to edit it and couldn't find one...help here would be nice. I did recreate the entry with complete nutrition in the title and made it complete. This does bug me too, but now I can also see how someone may have accidentally done it.

Would love to see a feature where you could not only confirm, but reject (deny I dunno whatever you want to call it) an entry. Allow the search results to be sorted on confirmations/rejections.

e.g. I saw an entry for a raw onion with 20 grams of fat. I'd love to be able to click "Reject" on that entry.

Once this is in place, perhaps any entry with a certain critical mass of rejections could be auto-scrubbed from the database.

i found a really good one today... looking for a generic cheese and pickle sandwich, i came across one that was 'homemade' with 1g of fat... i think there must have been imaginary cheese in it!

I have an excel sheet set up to record nutritional content of meals from restaurants. When I find an entry from popular restaurant, but it only has the caloric content, I am happy to see the listing because I can quickly add it. Later, however, I go back and use my excel sheet to figure the nutritional content and then edit it. W/in 5 minutes the edits are available and I edit my food diary by replacing with the new entry.

Yes, it is a hassle but this is also a free site. It takes a village.

I try use my bar code scanner on my phone to input my calories in with as much as possible. Although i have to admit for fresh products it's a bit hard. I also use fitday and compare the 2 to make sure i'm being some where close. I've noticed that the exercise calories are extremely high on MFP so i do not eat back any of my calories.

What bothers me more, however, is adding food from my android apps. The app doesn't allow me to see how many confirmations an entry earned and I cannot see the nutritional content either until I get to my computer. That is where the aformentioned editing begins.

I think if you put a slice of that onion I found on your "cheese" sandwich, and log both, it will come out correct at the end of the day. :)

found a 30 cal hotdog bun on here. Sure there could be a "diet" hotdog bun that may have been that low but list it as such. Pretty sure most buns hover around 100 cal.

See top quote. We all run into situations where not all of the nutritional data is there. Just don't share it. Keep it to yourself and you're not mucking up the database.

I agree, I can't stand it. I think they could just add quick calories if that's all they want to track. . :explode:  :grumble: :noway:

    Great idea.

I try to find the entries from MFP and not users, which are more reliable and usually also have lots of confirmations. Look for the ones without asterisks. Those have all the information filled in. If you are instead looking for something for a packaged item I believe you can scan the barcode yourself.

I dont see it as mucking up the database. The information that is there is correct, some of it is just missing. The other information may not be available to anyone. Like I said some companies dont provide nutritional information for their fresh produce.

Id be glad to see the correct calorie information rather than come up totally empty handed and have no idea.

    Maybe its just me.

This is an excellent idea and should be implemented.
