healthy lunch at fast food?

So i went to tim hortons today, and decided to get the chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat. it's supposedly 330 calories, but it seemed quite large? idk, i havent eaten out in a while! but yeah it seemed quite large for only 330 calories? idk usually my homemade sandwiches are more around the 500-600 calorie range when they're similar size to the one i had at lunch today.

but yeah, fast food nutrition listings: to be trusted, or not? did i truly eat 330 calories at lunch today?

Did you mean "low calorie lunch at fast food" instead of "healthy lunch at fast food"?

If they say it's 330, then yes, log 330.

Chain restaurants base their calories off what the "recipe" for the food is. Ideally, the food should be prepped according to restaurant guidelines, but that doesn't mean the employees are doing that.

I always try to put good faith in the fact that they are following those guidelines and that the calorie counts are close. It's probably the best estimate you're going to get.

I don't trust Timmies sandwich sizes either. On the website there's small and large, but when you order from the menu there's no option for small and large anymore. At least the one where I go. I got a turkey bacon club a few weeks ago and it seemed HUGE for 400 calories.

I also have a beef with Wendy's nutrition chart that they have in their restaurant. On the website if you look on the calculator to get the calories for your salad, it includes the dressing too. But in the store, on the wall they have their nutrition facts posted, which is nice, but their salads are all without dressing, you have to look elsewhere to find the calories for the package of dressing and add. If someone didn't know to do that, they would be underestimating their calories by quite a bit.

You can always eat a handful Timbits to make up the difference.
  • Nah! I worked a Tim Hortons for a bit, we're supposed to put two tiny scoop of chicken salad in a sandwich but for some reason some employees end up always putting more and same thing for the turkey club, it supposed to be 5 half of bacon strips and a touch of sauce but if we have extra bacon we always end up being a bit "generous" and those pesky squeeze bottle are hard to control we always end up adding more especially with the honey mustard sauce it's too liquid for those bottles. And don't be fooled by their small size timbits are gorged of calories fat and sugar. if I can remember correctly they are about 70 calories each wich is almost as much as the veggie soup.

sounds sensible...this is why when I go to Subway I always log a bit differently than the website says, there are workers who put 50% more steak on my steak, egg & cheese 6 inch...and when I get chipotle sauce on anything at Subway I log it separately as the amount each worker uses is totally different...sometimes I barely taste it and other times it is swimming in the stuff!

OP, I'd log it and move on but if you go there a lot I dunno...might want to try and double check somehow? I don't know if that is possible as the staff might just look at you like you have 2 heads hehe

Well I guess I'll have to deal with it. Most of the inside of the sandwich fell all over my hands and lap anyway (-.-), so let's just hope that'll make up for any excess chicken and mayo!

Unless you're going to eat it on a regular basis I wouldn't sweat it too much.
