Reactive hypoglycemia

I am new to the site. I joined as a way to track my carbs and calories and encourage myself to exercise. I am looking for any friends that struggle with hypoglycemia. I've had an issue with RH for 18 years. I want to lose 32 pounds and control my hypoglycemic episodes. I get lightheaded, can't focus, shaky, very irritable, and sometimes I get blurred vision and heart palpitations. This usually happens within 2 hours or so of eating, even if it is a low carb meal. I have trouble working out because I feel faint. After birth control that caused weight gain and then having a baby, my metabolism is not what it used to be. I am trying to start a low carb diet and eventually eliminate all bread. I have tried this in the past, but always had episodes of RH that left me feeling like a complete failure. Now I know more about adding good fat to my meals and snacks, so I think I might be able to succeed this time. Please add me as a friend if you have overcome this issue and stabilized your blood sugar (or if you are just looking for friends). I'm open to LC/HF quick snack suggestions. I'm still looking for the right carb/protein/fat ratio to lose weight and stabilize blood sugar levels.

Hey! I also struggle with hypoglycemia symptoms, although I've never been officially diagnosed with it. I have been diagnosed with PCOS though, which is known to be related to problems with insulin - which I think must be the cause of my hypo episodes. Have you been diagnosed? I get all the symptoms you're describing, for me the physical weakness and mental brain fog are the hardest to cope with, as all I want at this point is FOOD and I end up overcompensating sometimes. I'm sorry that I don't have any answers for you regarding ways of managing this - just thought I'd say hi & let you know you're not alone!! :)

I will say though that I've started to try to reduce my carb intake (I only ever eat wild rice/wholegrain basmati, wholewheat pasta etc anyway) & up'd my fat & protein, which I think seems to be helping. I went over my carb/sugar goal yesterday & ended up waking at 4am sweating & nauseous due to low blood sugar. I also think exercise helps A LOT (from past experience). But I know what you mean about feeling faint when working out - I suffer with this too!! I went to the gym today about 2 hours after having a boiled egg with one slice of wholegrain bread, then ate a banana about half an hour before I started working out.. and I felt energised throughout AND after.. no shakes, nothing! I didn't even feel hungry for lunch! And I didn't get a stitch either! I literally only discovered this today and it could be a fluke.. but I'll try it again and see how I feel. Apparently though, protein and carbs are good to have before a workout - avoid fat because it takes longer to digest.

If you find out any more info or receive any tips, I'll be happy to hear them :)
