THis is my first day and already have totally screwed up with the calculator. My proteins are over by 23. I have had salmon, broccoli and for supper will have chicken. If I cut out more proteins i will have to cut my portiens of meat. How does everyone stay under the protein limit. If I cut out proteins my calories will go way down, and I have to have meat dont I, dont know if I can live without having meat. Please help

Hi
Don't worry about it too much! I go over on protein all the time!
I was worried at first but people here reassured me that the protein amounts on this site are quite low. It shouldn't affect your weight loss ( it hasn't affected min i have lost 2-3lb a week consistently since i joined!)
And it seems you are having good protein with the salmon, broccoli and chicken, i think it can be quite bad if it is all coming from red meat.
Hope this helps

No no, you haven't messed up! Protein is great, and you can use much more than this site recommends. It recommends 15% of calories from protein, which is okay if you're not active, but since you are, you need more. Aim for 25% or even as high as 50% from protein. Think of protein as a building block...it helps to build and repair your muscles, which are broken down when you exercise. Carbs help carry the protein to the right places and give you energy, but without enough protein, they have nothing to carry. Protein also helps keep you full. Fat is important too because it keeps you feeling full and regulates your blood sugar, so don't skimp on that either...their recommendation of 20-25% is great. You can manually change your % goals if you choose the custom option.0

Here's a formula my trainer gave me for protein: your goal weight, divided by two equals a healthy amount of grams(?) of protein. That works out to about 25% of my intake.
Protein is my friend.:flowerforyou:0 -
protein makes muscle... muscle burns calories fast... break out those weights0

All of the above is true, but I wouldn't consistantly try to be too high. I use this page as a guide. Universities have no reason to lie.

I am curious: I had to cut out a lot of meats. Not because of the protien, but because of the calories. I used to live on the BBQ. Fire good! What else are you eating and what is your target?0 -

I don't necesarily say this is the best diet don't get me wrong. I don't even want you to think that. I have been here since Aug. it is actually been my second time counting calories. I don't drink milk because of an allergy and there are many types of foods I refrain from using because of that same problem. I have been eating this way most of the time I have been here, not the whole time because there are days I don't have a salad for lunch. I like leftovers and eat alot of mexican food.
I have lost 35 lbs and have been on a plateau.
Let me say though I was raised at least partially a vegetarian. I didn't start to eat meat until I was nearly 10 and then it was not all meats. Proteins are good for you and I try to add them in. So the fact that you are high in them is not bad. It is just a different eating style than I personally have. Your doing awesome don't sweat it to much.0 -
thanks eve i appreciate all the feed back every little bit helps0

double check that the proteins entered by someone else actually match the number of proteins in what you are eating. I have found that the chicken entry in here shows that 1 piece breast is 43 proteins or something crazy like that. That is totally inaccurate. Check your package and enter your figures if you have any doubt.0
