Hidden sugars and how to lower sugar

This is my first day on the plan, and was shocked to find I had gone over my daily sugar level.
I don't add sugar to teas/coffee.
I don't eat cakes or sugary snacks. So the sugars I am eating are hidden sugars. Could eating too many carbs cause sugar to rise? I appear to be eating far too many. I would be grateful for any help on this. Thank you

MFP doesn't differentiate between natural and added sugar, so unless you are diabetic I would actually just change your settings to ignore that number.
You can eat nothing but "clean" foods or unprocessed things you cook yourself and still have too many sugars (according to MFP) from sweet potatos, fruit, yogurt, etc.0 -
Thank you for your help. Will change my settings0
