I've never used the free weights or weight machines at the gym but I want to start and I'd really like to know what I should try and any gym etiquette that applies to this situation. Please help!

I basically use right now all of the resistance machines at the gym, mostly for the arms. I am slowly starting to use the free weights as well. Try all of the machines honestly that's what I did they each do something different. As for etiquette in the gym I go to, make sure no one is using the dumbbells/kettlebells and always wipe off the equipment you use. My gym has the sanitizer wipes so I take one with me before I start and wipe it off when I am done. If you have any questions about any of the machines or free weights always ask, don't be afraid to ask if you are not too sure how to do something. Good luck!0

I use Jefit. It's an app you can download on your phone. It has alot of pre programed workouts geared toward different goals. Pick one for beginners. It helped me alot when I first started lifing. I felt alot of the time I was aimlessly wandering, but this app tells you what to do and even shows you how to properly do each excersice. Good luck.0

Been lifting for a month. April 15 I was in you shoes. Get you a trainer. Best thing I ever started!0 -
If you get a free consult with one of the gyms personal trainers, do it. They can give you a lot of good info about what to do and can show you the proper way to use the machines.
I use the lat pull down...great for your back(ridding yourself of the back fat)
Leg press
Butterfly
Bench press or free weights laying in the same position.
Lunges holding free weights in each hand.
Squats--with Smith machine or free standing squat bar ----but make sure you ask for direction on proper technique.
Straight leg dead lift with weighted bar.
Bent over row with weighted bar
Really anything that is done with a machine you can do with free weights. And the thing about free weights is it makes you feel bad *kitten*, lol. Don't be afraid of free weights. You won't bulk up like men, we can't without A LOT of work and changes in diet.
If you have the means, I would suggest a personal trainer. I got one a couple months ago and it was the best thing I've done. I thought I had been doing decent workouts before him....boy was I wrong.0 -
I got a trainer to create a program for me as I was a total newbie.
5 minutes on the stationary rower
then grab a bench and dumbells
6-10 chest press (i'm not good at terms and my card is at the gym) I started on 4kg dumbbells now on 10kgs
6-10 sumo squats holding a dumbbell (as heavy as I'm comfortable carrying - currently 18kg)
6-10 single arm rows each side - went from 6kg to 12kg
30-40 russian twist holding a water medicine ball
6-10 burpees
Repeat 3-4 times
Finisher on a cardio machine, usually bike 45secs easy 15secs up the effort and speed for about 10 minutes or until i feel like I'm going to die.
I've not done it for a few weeks and coincidentally haven't lost weight since I was doing this three times a week.. hmm I should go to the gym..0
