Weight dropping off...Inches, not so much?

I've read a few things on this forum about this topic.
First off this app is the greatest thing ever!! its really helped eat properly or at least way better than i was.

So here is my and explain to predicament.

Im just over 6 weeks into my "diet" and exercise routine, I have to say i'm finding it easy, i'm not lacking motivation and i quite easily do 5 days a week at the gym. Time spanning at the very least 60mins. My time in the gym is spent warming up on cardio, I started at 5mins and slowly upped it over the weeks to 20mins. During these 20mins im mainly on the treadmill 1 min walk 1 min run on a slight incline.

Then i move onto the weights, I flick between the machines and free weights (3 machines and 3 free weights) Then a cooldown of 10mins on cross trainer or treadmill dependent on my mood.

In addition to the workout i'm having 3 meals a day averaging 3-400 kcals a day with a calorie limit of 1700 which i rarely hit. Food is on the whole fine mainly salads, eggs, chicken, rice, and as we have all done it, some nasty stuff as well from time to time.

I have noticed a change in my mental attitude towards food, fitness levels even heart rate, I've lost a full stone in 6 weeks.

So now here is where it gets confusing. Some clothes that were too small are now slowly fitting, I've even gone down a jean size, The jeans i'm fitting into now are slightly too big. But my waist and belly haven't shifted a single inch. My wasit fluctuates an inch or so from day to day. So how can i lose a substantial amount of weight fit into small clothes but loose no inches from anywhere?

Dont get me wrong i'm not disheartened by it, Its just annoying.

If your smaller clothes are not starting to fit and you went down a jeans size, you are losing inches. There is no other explanation, I would say make sure you are measuring the exact spots each time. Congrats on the loss so far :)

You must be losing inches in places you are not measuring. I only measure 4 places regularly - hips at the widest point, waist at the narrowest point, bust, and stomach (over my belly button). I hadn't had much of a shift recently on any of the 4 but discovered yesterday I lost 2 inches off my bra band size (under the b00bs around the rib cage). I honestly never measure there but my bras weren't fitting and I was trying a self-measurement thing to try to find some inexpensive ones to tide me over and wanted a good reference to go on.

Thing is, the only way to have a good reference for measurements is to try to measure the same place every time. So you can lose inches other places without ever really knowing, except that your clothes fit better.

I will lose weight "up top" first. My hips & thighs are the last place I lose weight from. This will vary for individuals. So irritating because my thighs are so @#%#$ big.

The inches will come (I promise). The scale is moving.....you're doing the right things.

It does sound like you're losing some inches, so I wouldn't say you're not losing any. But, if you see the scale moving and the inches not, you may be losing more muscle than fat, proportionally speaking -- since muscle, for the same volume, weighs more than fat. For people that are trying to conserve as much LBM and lose fat, they'll see differences in inches before the scale.

How much protein are you getting? It's recommended that you get sufficient protein to conserve as much LBM as possible in a caloric deficit -- the numbers I've seen as a bare minimum for this 0.7 g per 1 lb body weight (or 1 g protein per 1 lb lean body mass). Heavy lifting also helps with this -- but we're talking a serious, progressive overload program like 3x5 Starting Strength, Strong lifts, etc. Not just 5 and 10 lbs dumbells.
