Does anyone get this way??? I HAVE to eat every 3 hours or I get irritated/angry. I simply can't help myself! Can anyone suggest a low calorie BUT filling snack I can munch on while I wait for my next meal??? Many thanks!!

I sometimes get like that, but I usually eat before this occurs. Veggies and hummus, low fat yogurt, protein shake are a couple low calorie snacks to keep you going, I'm sure more people will chime in with their suggestions as well.

    100 calorie popcorn!
  • Sliced apples are a very good filling snack and so are bananas (at least for me they are)

Almonds have a lot of protein, and fill you up quickly and keep your blood sugar low... I usually will eat about 12 or so in between Snack & Lunch (3 hour gap) .. which is about 50 calories

Lol- my bf says he actually has an internal clock that tells him when to feed me so I don't get "cranky"...even when he's not hungry.

OMG I could not agree more. My boyfriend will sometimes approach strangers when we are out to see if they have any food if I am starting to act up! ;) He is trying to be funny but it is no secret that I am a complete bit** when I don't eat every 3 hours or so. I suggest keeping some nuts (almonds, brazil nuts, dry nuts) or 100 calorie packs or protein bars in your purse. Or at home, popcorn and lunch meat is stuff I like to snack on in between! Good luck and I feel ya :)
  • Yogurt with Grapenuts is very filling. But don't let it sit too long or it gets mushy! Also, a glass of almond milk or skim milk is filling.
  • Funny.

I get irritated/cranky if I don't have my requisite small snacks every 2-3 hours.

    Here are my "goto" snacks:

    raw broccoli/cauliflower/carrots and hummus
rice cake and hummus or masala/lentil dip
blue diamonds almonds with dark chocolate
    laughing cow cheese wedges
    cottage cheese (lowfat)
fage nonfat plain yogurt with honey graham crackers
fruits - i usually bring an apple or banana
mixed snack bag - raisins, cashews, coconut shavings, peanuts, dried pineapple
    can of tuna

I also drink a lot of tea and water throughout the day so help me feel full.

Yes, I do, because I'm hypoglycemic. My best suggestion is eat something with protein. Fruit would be fine, but pair it with almonds, peanut butter, or cheese. One of my all time favorite snacks is a small apple with a slice of Swiss. It's a little over 100 cals and very sustaining. Greek yogurt is good as well. I never do a snack that doesn't involve some sort of protein, 5g at the absolute minimum, but I prefer 8 or more.

You may also want to consider visiting your doctor for a blood sugar test. Be sure to bring a snack on that day. I've gotten VERY nauseous.
  • I don't get irritated so much as i get sad and desperate! My "secret weapon" is the inividual serving of dry cereal....If you can find the ones that are about 3/4 cup, that's the best. I love Raisin Bran, Special K, and Cheerios. It's amazing what 100 calories worth of crunchy fiber can do for a person's mood!

I noticed that when I tried to go very low carb I was irritated ALL the time. If you are trying to cut the carbs a lot you may want to add a little back in and cut back slower. If you are only getting irritated when you get hungry try upping the protein a bit, make sure to get bit in at every meal or snack. I usually have a few packs of almond in my purse for such situations.

I'm the same way! My husband is famous for saying, "OK, we need to feed you!"

I don't have any snacks to add since the ones I would recommend are already listed, but know that you are not alone.
