I was told today by my best friend that because of my size I will NEVER be 130 and look healthy. I'm 5'7", and was told by my doctor that 130-135 is the best goal I could go for. Are there any ladies here that are 5'7" and are 130-135 lbs?? I hope my friend isn't just saying that cause she doesn't want me skinnier than her. I would hate for her to think that way, especially when her and I are suppose to be friends.....

do what makes you happy and healthy and worry not what she thinks. If you start to drop the weight and feel you are underweight, then stop and maintain, rather than lose anymore.4

I am 5'6'' and 130 lbs, I don't think anyone thinks I am too skinny
and I would listen to your Doc more then your friend6 -
Height 5' 7"

I'm 5'7" and 125, size 4, but I am small-boned. I think my husband would've preferred that I stopped losing weight at a size 6 honestly, but I enjoy being this size and have been successfully maintaining for several months now.3

I'm just short of 5'2'' with a goal of 115-120. So at 5'7'' 130 sounds a bit low to me. But it probably depends on your build and muscles. I'm of a pretty muscular build and can't see myself at the lower end of my normal BMI range (100lb), 118 is in the middle of that range.1

I think you should listen to your doctor and not worry about your friend's comments! I mean, how would she know?2

Don't listen to your friend. Listen to your doctor and your own body. Everyone has a set point--when I drop below mine I feel sick. Keep exercising and eating right and you will find out what works best for your body.1

I think you're ahead of yourself. Back up and focus on your day-to-day weight loss efforts and see how you feel as you go along.
Maybe your friend is used to you the way you are and legitimately thinks that you'd be too thin.
If it crosses your mind that she would think that, maybe y'all shouldn't be friends.2 -
I am almost 5'9" My goal is 123. Don't listen to your friends, get there, if you don't like what you see gain a few pounds.2
-
Your friend probably isn't saying that because she doesn't want you skinnier than her, but because numbers, when it comes to weight, look different on different people. Maybe she genuinely thinks you'd look unhealthily thin at that point. I know my weight range (5'9") is like 140-170. It's entirely possible I'd be too skinny at 140 because of my general frame and how I carry my weight. Then again, it might not.
Go for your goal, and reevaluate as you get closer to it. Your friend is just expressing her concerns, but honestly she doesn't really know what you'll look like at 130 either.
Edit: Just searched up my personal range and it's actually 120-170. That's 50 pounds different! The low end might be right, it might not be. I and everyone else will just have to wait and see.2 -
I would just lose until you feel comfortable in your own skin. Maybe thats 130 maybe its 150. Don't worry about the number and just do whats right for you.1
-
I would listen to your doctor. I am 5'7", am currently 132 and definitely not "too skinny." My workouts are almost entirely strength-training and I eat around 1700 calories a day, so certainly not starving myself or killing it with cardio.2
-
I am 5'7" and used to be 130-135 lbs when I was at my best weight. It's possible and very healthy (especially if your doctor agrees!). Your friend obviously hasn't done any research on the subject.
Remember your weight is only one aspect of weightloss. Inches and overall health are most important in my books! :flowerforyou:0 -

I agree with all of this.2 -
It's really a personal thing. I am 5'6" and last time I saw 130lb I was sick (hyperemetic pregnancy) and literally starving to death. I'm 145 (size 4) now, and it's a happy spot. But that's ME. That's not YOU.0

I'm 5'8 and I was 134 for a while. I looked pretty good and I think I would have looked fine at 125-130. I think 130 is a perfectly reasonable goal for someone 5'7.0

I have friends on here that are 5'7" and weigh 120. She looks thin, but she doesn't look unhealthy by any means.
I am 5'7", and 130 is unrealistic for me. I desire more muscle than I could have at that weight. It just varies person to person, and it depends largely on what your end goal is.0 -

<----191 lbs, 5'7" While I can stand to lose some, I'm not obese  :noway:2 -
5'7 here and 134. My lowest was 127 and I looked skeletal, it really depends on your frame! I have a large frame. I fluctuate between 132-134 and that's my maintenance weight.0
-
No way, I think go for the weight that feels right for you as long as it's healthy. I'm 5'6 and 127lbs and would like to lose some weight as I feel best at about 120 lbs.0
-
Listen to your doctor, and most importantly your own body...as you get closer to your goal, see if it seems attainable. Maybe your healthy range will be just above the 'ideal' range, but still in a quite healthy range. Either way, your doctor would know far more than your friend. Hopefully she meant well, but either way I wouldn't put much into it.0
-
Not unrealistic at all! But don't worry about that number right now. See how you progress and ones you start getting closer you can reevaluate.
If you get to 145 and look healthy,.. great! If you get there and feel you can lose some more,.. great! If you get to 130 and don't like it. Put some back on.
It's a goal, it's not set in stone. See where your journey takes you and at what point you feel healthy and happy!
You're friend may just be trying to keep you from getting disappointed. Don't worry about it.0 -
No two people are going to look the same at the same weight. Find the weight that satisfies YOU.0

5'9" here and I have been down to 117 as an adult... however I was extremely thin at that time. 125-135 is a great weight for me and 130 - 125 is my goal weight. I have a small bone structure which should be taken into account, but I would think that at your height 130 is entirely possible to get to and still look healthy1
-
I'm 5'6" and while I didn't look oddly skinny at 130-135, I look, feel, and maintain best at closer to 150. I found that if I tried to stay at 130 I couldn't have any flexibility/easing-off in my diet or exercise routines and that just didn't feel realistic.0
-
Really it kind of depends on your bone structure. I am 5'8" a few years ago was as low as 120.
However, I'm reasonably small boned.
That said, it didn't look good. I looked ill.
Please don't live and die by the scale. It's never a good road.0 -
It really depends on your body type...I'm 5'6" and shooting for 140. I have a slightly larger bone structure with broad shoulders. If you are like me, then it's probably a bit too skinny. The lowest I would ever even consider going is 135...looking back at some pics of myself at my skinniest I looked unhealthy. I'm not sure exactly what weight I was at in the pictures by my guess is about 130. I look great (and healthy) at 140 and I don't think anyone would guess my autual weight. I'll evaluate once I get there if I have a bit father to go, but it won't be much. The number on the scale (or on the tag of your jeans) isn't a good indicator of beauty. Don't worry about fitting what society says you should...just be your most healthy and beautiful self at whatever weight is best for you. A professional opinion would be the most trustworthy if you need guidance on what you should be aiming for.
Google the average australian weight and look at images of women that are all 154 (I think). It's pretty amazing how differently we all hold our weight.0 -
This is an interesting question because it involves so much more than just a number on a scale. I do believe you can be 5'7 and weight 130-135. However, that does not mean that you'll look great or you may look fantastic. It depnds on your lean body mass at the time and what your overall body type is.
My sister is 5'7 and weighs 128. She is a size 2/4 and has the ballerina body that is slight, long, lean and thin.
I am 5'8 and weigh 161. I do Crossfit and my lean body mass is 125 lbs. I did water submersion at Memorial Hospital to get this. I am a size 6/8. I weigh alot but my body fat is only 23%. My sister at 130 has a higher body fat than me at 26%.
Therefore, before you go and decide you want to be a number on the scale, first decide what clothing size you want to be, what body fat percentage you want (knowing that body builders for women are 15%, fitness models are 18-20%, athletes are 20-25% and that you are considered obese after 33% body fat.
Think on these things and then when you are size 4/6 and have 23% body fat, who cares if the scale says 140 or it could say 125, the bottom line is that you will be a healthy slim in shape chick!
Hope this helps.1 -
My husband thinks I will be really thin at 120, I think I will be just fine. We all have different ideas about what weight looks like. I would focus on the right now too, because the only way you will know, is once you get there. Also, you can weight the same at two different points in your life, and be completely different looking.0
-
Like everyone else said I think you should just continue your journey and re-evaluate as you go along. Maybe 130 is not what you really want anyways.
130 lbs of muscle vs. 130 lbs of deprivation vs 130 lbs of fat = all different looks.0
