Changing shape, changing style

I've gone down 14kg and am now an NZ 10 (which is US size 6 I believe) Very happy! However I'm having trouble reinventing my style from the more concealing tops and tunics, loose trousers of the past. I go shopping and seem to gravitate towards the 'old' look - almost to the extent of covering up all the hard work. I don't mean at late 50's I want to go about in super skin tight revealing clothes but I feel I need to change my style. Any tips or advice on how you've done this clothing-wise?

I am going through the same thing. I take someone with me when I go shopping to get another person's opinion and also they pick out things I would never think of trying on. I have a few pieces now that are different than my usual (stripes for example). I get so many compliments when I wear the new clothes it is helping to motivate me to get things that fit rather than baggy. Good luck and you should be showing off your new body.

Yeah it took me a while to change my look to more, nicer fitting clothing instead of baggy clothes. I was so use to hiding behind the clothes. Even now it's still a issue to a extent. You just have to get past the cover up thought and go with the nicer fitting more revelling clothes. It will feel awkward but once you do it will be easier. Like you say, you have worked hard. Now need to hide.

Trying changing one aspect of your style. Be brave and grab a pair of skinny jeans or jeggings but keep it comfortable with a looser yet flattering top.

As I guess you guys are autumn time, I've always found jumper dresses nice for the cooler months. Can wear a pear of tight jeans or jeggings/leggings with them easily.

You don't have to change everything at once!

I'm 44 and want to look attractive, not slutty, so I get what you mean. I am SO bad about slouchy clothes! I finally figured part of the problem was I needed clothes to be flexible as I do a lot of moving about with DIY projects, gardening and that sort of thing. So I found some jeans with a bit of stretch to the fabric (lycra?) OMG they are so comfortable while not being baggy pants! It's the same thing with shirts. If they have some "give" I don't feel restricted. Who ever thought of this was genius and deserves a prize of some sort!

Take a friend shopping with you. Not just any friend, mind you, someone who's style is completely different form yours. Let her/him know what size you are and let them completely pick out clothes for you. You just sit back and let them work. I did this many years ago just after I had my son (12 to be exact) and the friend (actually was a co-worker but we got along alright) was awesome with spending someone elses money on a makeover for that person. I used to wear very loose clothes. So much that you couldn't even tell I was pregnant. After I had him I decided I needed a new, more professional, look and she agreed. She put me in platform heels, which I had never word before and now I can't walk without, and she put me in a lime green shirt that went over a white tank. I came out of the dressing room with it on and everyone complimented me even though all I could think about was "ew, lime green, that's gotta look horrible". But it didn't. Even the strangers were telling me how good it looked on me. I let someone else take control of my appearance and I've learned throughout the years from there how to tweak it to my own liking.
