At the risk of looking stupid (homemade stuff)

I make 99% of our dinners from scratch. I never follow a recipe or anything - I just throw stuff in that sounds good i that moment. Like right now I have chicken breast marinating for stir fry. I threw a bunch of stuff together for the marinade last night.

How does one (who at this point is totally unwilling to start measuring each and every ingredient) go about figuring out the nutritional value of said food? I realize it will be an estimate, and I realize that it would be better to measure everything - I don't need lectured on those two topics.

You've answered your own question. You could make your own recipe on the site but it would only be guestimating without actual measurements. I'd recommend estimating on the higher side.

I agree with Mad. I think it's better to measure everything to be safe but if you're going to estimate then do it on the higher side. The point of this diet is to avoid having that 700 Cal meal at chipotle, drink 4 pepsi's at 120 cal each then have chicken alfrado from cheesecake factory for dinner.

Remember when cooking little things like cooking oil, butter, cream might pack a bigger punch in the calories than you might think if you don't weigh them properly.

    Thanks to you both.

I do measure the oil and and stuff I use *for* the cooking, just not the random stuff I throw in the marinade. I'll check out a few different recipes with a similar feel and see if I can get a decent estimate. The veggies/noodles/chicken I use I can measure accurately though, so that will help.

I would estimate or type in what you think you have made and see if something close comes up. Type in chicken stir frye and see what pops up!

    I don't know why I didn't think of this myself - thanks!
