Unusual foods together...judgements?

Hey guys, so i'm just looking to get some discussion going I guess see what other people's views are on this..
I've seen a lot of topics on here on mixing foods a lot of people wouldn't think of putting together but I do think/have learned with my lifestyle change people are very quick to judge, i've noticed some of my friends/even my parents bit wary of me substituting things like potatoes or rice with eggs, I love eggs - they help towards my protein count and I enjoy the taste of them with broccoli, and chicken or other meats and veg so I think why not for dinner .
Obviously my family/close friends support me and understand I have obviously changed myself for the better and it works for me but sometimes I think they find it hard to understand, anyone else experience this?

I think some of this is regional. Some food combos my husband talks about from growing up in PA are totally unheard of for me here in GA.
Probably also calls to something I think is part of human nature: we are hesitant to try new things. Many people think eggs and associate it with breakfast. I would not think of having them with broccoli but now that you mention it, makes sense to include broccoli in an omelet.
I recall as a kid if my mom made 'breakfast' for dinner, pancakes + eggs + bacon, it felt like a special treat.0 -

I love mixing and matching foods... half the time I find that what I'm doing is pretty common in other parts of the world. Anybody who thinks eggs are just for breakfast is missing out!!! For dinner tonight it's grilled eggplant on polenta with grilled halumi and 2 eggs over medium.0

I put together a lot of things that others think are a bit strange, but I attribute it to having an above-average understanding of flavor profiles, and what works well together.
Seriously though, just do your thing. The first person to put peanut butter and jelly together was probably looked at like a nut, but we see how that turned out!0 -
Maybe they were looked at like a legume..... <giggle> How about fried rice which can have chicken, broccoli, rice, and eggs..... Not MFP approved for weight loss but a common way to eat the things listed together. At college I had a Chinese roommate. One of her friends had us over for dinner and it was mostly eggs and tomatoes scrambled together with some left over rice. It was great, and I make it now with leftover rice occassionally. Tomato season will be here soon and I can't wait now that I've typed this!0

I really don't mind! I'm always mixing my foods no matter how odd it may sound. Thinking I was the only one but my friends do the same! I've done it for the longest time & I've stuck with it till now.
You do what you do, it doesn't matter what others think! You never know, something that may sound like an odd combination to you, someone else might want to try something new & like the mixture of something you've created that they've never tried. Give a little spice to their day!0 -
I have something similar quite often for dinner... veggies with some sort of meat mixed with an egg or two.
Quick and tasty. I have never thought it was unusual.0 -
thanks for the replies guys, interesting to here what people say, guess for me in many ways mixing foods like this helps me to reach my goals be it my macros or just getting more greens in my diet.0

In my family it's not unusual when lazy to cook eggs on a pan with olive oil, green peas and sliced tomatoes. We then eat that with nice bread ( We're French) and it's the lazy Sunday dinner done.0

I have many times had scrambled eggs on toast for dinner, did not think that was so unusual?
Last year we went on tour of UK and breakfast was included every day. Most of the cooked foods were similar to a cooked breakfast in Australia - but was really interesting to hear the comments of some American people on the tour.
Cooked tomatoes were really strange to them and baked beans - both of which are very common in cooked breakfasts here.
Of course, USA a is a big country and these dozen or so people nay not be representative of all Americans - but nevertheless interesting to compare different food ideas.
The thing that struck me as unusual for breakfast were selections of cold salad items - cucumber slices, slivers of cold salmon, that sort of thing.
Which were very popular with Asian tourists.0 -
American breakfast differ from one area to the other. I'm traditional southern. So for us, it was eggs (cooked any way) bacon, sausage, toast, cereal, cold milk, fruits, peanut butter toast, oatmeal (I use chocolate chips, pecans, raisins, and pancake syrup in mine) pancakes. And for the party people, left over cold pizza and beer. It's different from every region.0

I don't see anything strange in that, OP, I will put eggs with pretty much anything! I'm veggie so if my dinner is lacking calories I'll throw an egg in there so I make up the calories and get some extra protein too.0
