knee pain

I've been doing circuit training for 2 months and body combat for a couple of weeks. A few weeks ago I noticed my right knee was hurting. When I would just kneel on it it would hurt. When I workout I usually dont notice any pain. This past week I haven't worked out at all because my car broke down but boy do my knees hurt. Just squatting to pick something up or get eye level with my kids make my knees hurt. I haven't done any running, can circuit training cause bad knees? I've worked out before, but not as extensive, and never had my knees hurting. Please tell me my knees aren't screwed :/

I had some knee issue when I first started a month or so ago. I think the biggest factor for me was the treadmill which I was using for most of the workout. When I cut down the time on the treadmill and split it with the bike / elliptical my knees seemed to be much happier with the arrangement.

If it makes you feel any better I went to the doctor and she was all, so it hurts when you use the treadmill huh? Maybe you should not use the treadmill as much.

Any exercise using your legs can cause knee pain depending on your movement patterns. Sometimes this is due to movement imbalances and sometimes due to overuse. Without knowing much about your training schedule I would suggest trying some foam rolling of your calves, quads, and hamstrings (basically the muscles around your knees). See if that alleviates any of your pain. If it does than there is a good chance it is more muscular (tightness, trigger points, etc.) You would definitely want to do this prior to any activity.

I recently stared Body Combat and noticed I needed to be really careful about the lunges and squats. Because things are fast, I had to really watch my form to make sure my knee wasn't going over my toe. Some of the lunges, I actually has to make easier because we move to fast I just couldn't do them with good form.

Your knees aren't screwed. When they hurt, give them a break and they should get better.

You can also look to see if you kneecap is tracking straight. I see it mostly with athletic people, muscle imbalances can pull at the knee and an obvious sign is if your kneecap isn't aligned.

Your knees are not necessarily screwed! I have had two surgeries on my left knee and one on my right to fix torn cartilage! Unfortunately the left has gone again but I just slap the anti-inflammatory gel on, take a couple of paracetomol and carry on! I currently walk 5-6 miles a day but I avoid the gym because that did aggravate it. It is about finding out what you can do. If it persists get it checked but other wise just put ice on and let time heal it! Good luck!
