I assume you mean PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)? It's the same as it is for anyone else. Eat less than your body burns each day. Track everything, exercise (more important IMO for people with PCOS as it helps keep your insulin levels lower), and be consistent. It may come off slower than you'd like, but it will come off.

Thyroid shouldn't affect weight loss at all if you're appropriately medicated.

My DW has to take Synthroid daily and many females I have trained had PCOS. It takes more time, but as mentioned, it's still going to take calories in/out to achieve weight loss. One thing that's helped a lot of my clients is training HIIT style to help increase their RMR's.

I have a hypoactive thyroid and have managed to lose 35 lbs. I have to thank my doctor for the dedication he gave to me concerning my weight. If you are having weight issues, consult your thyroid doctor immediately to address your medication first and any other questions you have a physician should be able to help
  • I have PCOS. I have found it most effective to eat at a calorie deficit (currently 1200 per day) and avoid processed/packaged foods. And honestly, psychologically keeping the consequences of NOT losing weight with this syndrome in mind every day helps a lot (i.e. I want to have kids). Losing weight will help symptoms of PCOS, so just keep going. Fall in love with vegetables and high fiber grains and healthy sources of protein. And even just a daily walk and weights to get at least some exercise.

    Daily staples for me...
    1) High fiber breakfast
    2) Almonds to snack on (limit of 30 nuts)
    3) Big salads (vegetables keep the calorie count low; get creative with different ingredients; make your own dressing and don't use too much; goat cheese for an indulgence is wonderful)
    4) Random push-ups/back extensions to break up desk work

My mum has thyroid issues. Make sure your medication and treatment is up-to-date.

Most important, perseverance and gentleness in relating to your body. You are trying to make yourself healthier - you have to be firm with yourself but also kind and nurturing in your way of thinking.

I have Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease) and lost weight more slowly than most, so be patient! But I did it just like everybody else—by eating at a deficit. Read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants

Eating reduced carbs is recommended for PCOS due to the insulin resistance that usually goes along with it. I've found the key for me is adding in exercise. When I slack off on exercising my weight loss slows/stops even while continuing to eat reduced carb and fewer calories. As a previous poster said, exercise helps to lower the blood sugar which has been critical for weight loss for me.
