Hello! My name is Kay, although it's not my real first name, but it's what I got by online. I'm 20 years old, 21 in a couple of months. I was a relatively slim child up until I was 10-11 years old, and my mom and step-father got divorced and we became literally below the poverty line. Since then, my eating habits went completely downhill. I couldn't be picky with foods, and unfortunately it's carried into a bad adulthood eating habit as well. Plus all the healthier choices are simply expensive where I live, and being young, and working retail, it's difficult to get into that habit after nearly 11 years, especially when you're a computer worm like me. But, I'm trying. Because my dreams are slipping from my grasp. A friend referred me here, and I'm already loving how simple it is to track food and exercise.

I just recently got the Kinect system for Xbox 360, and let me tell you, it's so very helpful with getting up and getting active, but having a blast at the same time. So that is one of my main keys into getting active again.

Anyways, I'm glad to be here, and I really look forward to making this goal to help turn my dreams into a reality. (:

  • Good luck!! You are going to love MFP! I just started on the 20th of December and have already lost 4 lbs, mostly thanks to the Kinect!

Welcome I have a lot to lose also 130 is my first goal then possibly another 30 to 40 pds after that depending on how I look. Everyone here is so nice you will have plenty of support. I know how it is growing up and having to eat higher calorie food I was raised on Spanish rice and white beans and what ever fish my dad a brothers caught and dove for abalone and I hate fish. So if you shop the perimeter of the store its cheaper a better for you. Good luck

I just started to get healthy this year too! Ive got 122lbs to go! Just stick to your calorie count and try to be active and you'll do fine! :)
  • Wow, such quick replies, haha! Thanks so much. And yeah, the foods I grew up was stuff like top ramen, hamburger helper, and lots of greasy stuff (fried chicken, etc.). And that's my favorite food is chicken, so I'm really going to start looking into recipes with it that turns it so much more healthier.

    Welcome Kay:flowerforyou:

You can make way better choices with your food, you mention chicken, lose the skin, and fry it in a frying pan with just a little olive oil as well as baking it etc, and it can be a wonderful source of protein.

Veggies, well it certainly is not the season, and I don't know where you live, but if you have even a little space, you can plant a garden and grow some veggies. Think of the healthy outdoor exercise you will get too!

This is a lifestyle change, not a diet, when you can embrace this lifestyle change, you will succeed, but it take work and time. One of my favorite sayings is "Only in the dictionary does Success come before Work"

    Cheers!
