"normal daily activity" confusion...

Its been a while since I've used this, and I'm just starting back up being serious on calorie counting. I'm just unsure what to set for my "normal daily activity". I'm a salesman, but I only tend to work 3-4 days the week right now. When I work I'm constantly on my feet and walking around which would be "light activity", but when I don't work which is about half the week, I tend spend a lot of time on my computer which would be "sedentary".

Since it's kinda 50/50 there, I wasn't sure if I should check "light activity" or "sedentary".

Also note: In case it matters when I do exercise (quite a few times a week) I do wear a heart weight monitor that estimates my calories burnt rather nicely.

  • You could set your MFP to sedentary as default and download a podometer for your smart phone. That way, you could deduct a few calories on the days you have been 'active' at work.

Otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about the 'active' days and treat them as 'bonus expense'.

And whatever you do, don't use those days to eat over your allowance because you have been 'active' ! :)

Unless you do nothing at all on the days where you are not being a salesperson, then don't put sedentary. It's really for someone who sits on their tushies all day long. I may have a desk job on Mondays but I also move around the office, go up and down stairs a few times a day, go shopping, walk to my public transport, etc. I am far from sedentary even then. So, when I started, I set it to lightly active. I think it's better to start getting more calories to begin with and see how it goes...if you aren't losing weight, you can down your calories.

Well... kinda conflicting views. I guess for now I'll try "sedentary" and if I don't seem to be getting enough food bump up from there.
