Dreaming of maintenance

Do you think sometimes about how will it be to be in maintenance?
500 cals (more or less) to be eaten every day more than I do now...
Sometimes I calculate.... 500 cals... they are 2 glass and a half of my milk and nesquik (I like it with a LOT of nesquik) ... they are about half a pound of ice cream... a big bowl of tagliatelle... a big bar of chocolate... they are.. oh, I don't know, a bigger portion of steak?
My favorite though is that 500 cals will do a beautifully big breakfast... this is the only meal in which I actually still "suffer"
What yours 500 cals a day will be for you?

I think about it everyday! Being able to have just slightly bigger portions at dinner would be great!
I also think about what it would be like to go shopping for clothes and not stress about being such a large size and feeling embarrassed about it.0 -
I do a 500 kcal cardio workout daily to be able to eat at maintenance but still net at deficit. For me that is 65 minutes on the elliptical trainer, targetting a heart rate of 140. I spend it on red wine, mostly.0

you only have about 10lb to lose, so i would up your cals to lose 0.5lb per week - so you get an extra 250 cals right now! Extra glass of nesquik!0 -

You'll see.... and yes, it's wonderful exactly how you may imagine0 -

Thanks for the suggestion! (mmmm... very cold milk and a lot of nesquik... better than anything! )
Yes, I read that near to the goal you should go for 0.5 pound a week... but... maybe this is not the best topic to ask, anyway... why?0 -

Yup, I love calories from exercise too
Anyway in maintenance there will be ANOTHER 500 cals, if we continue to exercise0 -
I hate to dash the dream ladies but maintenance dosen't mean bigger portions....
I hit maintenance yesterday...and thought let's celebrate...
I am gonna have 2 hotdogs (lean ones) with buns, a full serving of FF and gravy with cheese and carrots with dip for dinner...
Normally it would be 1 hotdog, 1/2 serving of FF and carrots...well...
I had to eat "normally" because I couldn't eat all the FF as I was stuffed after 1 hotdog w/bun, the 50g of carrots and dip...
I could have eaten it all but I would have been "stuffed" and uncomfortable...
So I later had a small chocolate mousse and 50g of chocolate...(about 9pm) as that is when I wasn't stuffed...0 -

Well... first of all CONGRATULATION
And then, I imagine it will take time and trials to find the "right" maintenance... no problems there... anyway, just the thought to be allowed to eat more... it's kind of tasty by itself
PS what's FF? Sometimes I can guess the meanings, sometimes... no0 -
FF=French fries.
The only thing about maitenance so far for me is I have more calories for snacks...and my Coffee from Tim Hortons in the morning.
That being said I am okay with that and I still have about 250 more calories to add over the next 6 weeks to hit my actual maitenance calories...
It's summer so I suspect they will go to drinks by the pool.0 -
Mine will often go for wine or cocktails. Oh, my beloved Manhattan, how I have missed you! Or having more than 1 ounce of cheese with the wine I'd already budgeted for.
Although last night I was having fantasies about having extra rice, pasta or bread without worrying about whether it was taking calories I should use for something more nutrient-dense. I've gotten used to a lot of veggie-and-protein topping and a little carb base, but I do love my carbs.0 -
Haha sadly, it's not that different. By the time you reach maintenance, your deficit should typically be lower (250), and 250... that's not necessarily a lot of food. Pretty much right now on days I'm hungry and go over, I end up eating at maintenance.
Not gonna lie though, every time I've added 100 calories to my diet it's been a huge difference. The feeling just doesn't last long.
Also, not to burst your bubble, but if you still have some pounds to lose... your maintenance will probably be closer to what you are eating now anyway...
Also, I don't recommend to increase your calories to maintenance right away... but to gradually ease yourself there when you have a couple pounds left. Otherwise, your scale is going to jump by 4 pounds (which is normal) and you're going to freak out.0 -

thanks
Still a bit of time for me before maintenance though..0 -
Losing weight is easy part, maintenance is the hard part (at least for me). It's not as simple as adding 500 calories back to your diet. It will take some time to find a equilibrium.0

When I get to maintenance I will be eating about the same number of calories as I did when I first started on here. I thought that was rough back then.0

No... Maintenance is years away for me. It's taken 2 years to lose 65 lb and I have a 40-65 more to lose.
But I already have a maintenance plan, it's to go off of keto/low-carb and just do normal Primal / Paleo.
I never really gained in it, but just halted my progress, so I figure it'll be a perfect diet for maintenance.
Sweet potatoes, baking with almond and coconut flour, even a those starchy white potatoes and rice in my dishes as part of a regular diet.
And the most appealing... following the 80/20 rule!
Which means I get to cheat every so often!0 -
It's a nice thought :-) but it's honestly not as simple for some. I didn't just add on 500 calories, I slowly worked up to it so by the time I got there, it wasn't much different. I started my journey at 202 lbs, and am 135 lbs now. I've held my weight steady by still weighing/measuring/logging. So it doesn't feel much different for me at all.0
