Please, please don't net under 1200 calories a day unless you have a medical condition/medical advice.
Its for your own health. Don't be silly.

How about this one.......
Don't assume 1200 is an appropriate number in the first place. Yes, it's possible....but it's not for everyone (it's a default).0 -

It's not a default, it's as low as MFP allows because of the idea that "below 1200 is unhealthy".
The problem is everyone wants a quick fix.. and even though it says RECOMMENDED next to One Pound a Week.. people see the Two Pounds a Week option and go "YES! THAT!"
1,500-1,800 makes me so much less hangry! :drinker:0 -
for a lot of people the number of calories they shouldn't eat less than is quite a bit higher than 1200.... 1200 is a minimum for a small, sedentary, older woman.... for nearly all men the minimum number of calories would be quite a bit higher, and even most women it would be higher
better to go by a percentage of TDEE.... as in people who are already in the healthy body fat percentage range shouldn't eat less than TDEE - 10%.... people with quite a bit to lose: not less than TDEE - 20%........ people with a huge amount of fat to lose can probably go as low as TDEE - 30%
but there's no need to set your calorie goal at the absolute minimum.... it's easier for long term compliance and avoiding "falling off the wagon" and rebound fat gain, if you try to find the *highest* number of calories you can eat while still steadily losing weight... it may be slower that way but the fact you have a better chance of sticking with it long term and much less risk of suffering issues due to eating too little, it doesn't really matter if it takes you longer to get to goal... when you maintain your healthy weight/body composition for life, the time it took to get there will be but a distant memory.0 -
I personally don't believe 1200 should be the lower limit by default. Everyone is different, and so long as you are eating good fats and proteins and taking a good multivitamin to ensure you're reaching your needs, it doesn't matter if you are under the 1200 mark. I'm not talking about a 500cal diet or anything, but 900-1000 can work for people without becoming ill!0

The people around me appreciate that MFP talked me out of the 1200-1400 calorie goal I was aiming for when I found the site. I was such a jerk when I was running a deficit that high!
