STARVING!

I have been making healthy choices but I AM STARVING! And I am only craving food that are horrible for me. Starting thi spost just so I won't walk over to my cabinet and eat more food ( I am very close to lunch though and I am looking forward to my chicken noodel soup!)

I get 'em during that one week of the month. I can't seem to get full. When that happens I eat 5 egg wgites. Total of about 85 cals and it really stops the cravings!0

Jenn, I peaked at your diary. I know if I don't make my morning heavy in protein I am so hungry all day. If you like eggs, load up on a couple in the am or do a protein shake if you are pressed for time. Things like cereal or sweet carb foods make me crash at about 9:00 am. My breakfast is very boring because it's almost always 2 whole eggs & 1 egg white scrambled with two pieces of wheat toast but it keeps me from eating other things I shouldn't later in the day.0

I find that a midmorning snack (before you get hungry) of a small handful of almonds helps to keep that starving feeling at bay! And a nice hot cup of tea.

try high protein food, that helps me get full. I know what you mean about craving the bad stuff though!! lol0

I can't see your diary so I don't know what you're eating. A good friend of mine on here told me I wasn't eating nearly enough fiber, which is great for you and helps keep you full longer. Women should have at least 25 g or more a day. I upped mine with high fiber, low cal whole grain breads and more fruit. Also, Kashi makes a lot of great high fiber foods. I got some of their oatmeal cookies and have one for a snack. Not a lot of sugar and sodium and lots of fiber so it tastes good as is good for me! . And studies show that women who have high fiber diets decrease their heart attack rate by 90%, and that's the number one killer of women! Give that a try and good luck! :flowerforyou:0

Eat lots of fiber (MFP doesn't give you enough in your goal - women should really aim for 25 grams/day, men for 35) and protein and drink a bunch of water. I don't know what your calorie goal is set to but mine is 1350 and I am pretty much always satisfied.

I definitely know where you are coming from with this...when i feel like i'm ravenous I'll chug a glass of water before i eat so that i feel fuller...then dive into some type of cleaning project so i'm distracted...cleaning old leftovers out of the fridge kills my appetite lol0

Look at other people's diary to see what they are eating and focus on the ratio of carbs to protein. One of the big changes necessary for continued weight loss/control is portion size and eating more often. Switch to eating 4 times/day then cut down on the calories per meal...then do it again by going to 5 meals/day and cut down portions again. The end result is better eating habits and (with exercise) weight loss. When you get to your goal weight start measuring body fat manually with a caliper. (look online --they're like $5) Use this as your personal guage on how well you are doing to maintain and rely less on what the scale tells you.0

I definitely know where you are coming from with this...when i feel like i'm ravenous I'll chug a glass of water before i eat so that i feel fuller...then dive into some type of cleaning project so i'm distracted...cleaning old leftovers out of the fridge kills my appetite lol
LOL - especially if it's been a while since you last cleaned out the leftovers - have you ever taken a container out and thought, "What IS that?" because you can't even recognize it anymore?0 -
I agree with all the comments so far. Everyone is different but I know when I started this I had to have a snack between each meal or I was starving. Try that with healthy snacks? Also drinking a lot of water helps fill you up. You have to find out what helps you cope between meals. Good Luck!0

I find the only way I overcame being hungry (and I mean hungry, not itching for food) was to eat steel cut oatmeal for breakfast. I make a large batch up each week, and although it sounds gross, I refrigerate and heat up 1 1/5 cups with 1/2 cup 1% milk and a tsp brown sugar each morning. It is high fibre, low calorie and full of carbs to keep you going most of the morning. I am rarely hungry until about 12-1 for lunch. I agree with comments about fibre and protein. I just ate a can of tuna with low fat mayo. Takes away that craving - eat carbs too - stay within your limit but they are filling. Snack on fruits/veggies and drink lots of water.
Try not to let yourself get that hungry - eat small meals more often.....egg whites are good too!!0 -
I know exactly how you feel. Last night I got the munchies bad and ate over my calorie goal by over 300. I ate out last night and though I made a healthy choice it was a lot of calories that didn't stick with me and I didn't get my usual between meal snacks.
The most important thing is that if you feel hungry first have a glass of water or two. Ask yourself if you are actually hungry or just bored (this is one of my biggest problems). If you decide that you actually are hungry then eat something even if you go over your calories for the day and don't feel guilty about it. You got to feed your body when it tells you that you're hungry or you risk "starvation mode".0 -

If you start your morning with sweets and carbs your stomach thinks you will need to go crazy with insulin and preps for that - which leads to a sugar high, followed by a crash. On days I eat a good amount of protein for breakfast (like boiled eggs), I eat less at every meal and crave less. On days (like yesterday) that I skip breakfast, I tend to go over on calories because I am starving by mid-afternoon and my body goes crazy with my lunch and I crash right after!

On days I eat a good amount of protein for breakfast (like boiled eggs), I eat less at every meal and crave less. On days (like yesterday) that I skip breakfast, I tend to go over on calories because I am starving by mid-afternoon and my body goes crazy with my lunch and I crash right after!

Two important points to build on this as well as what I said earlier.... NEVER, NEVER, NEVER skip breakfast and protein in every meal that is food helps the insulin from spiking. If your protein is mostly a protein powder drink, drink it and wait 20 minnutes to eat the rest of the food for better absorption and to start the control on the insulin.
