Hello everyone -
I made a profile for MyFitnessPal over a year ago and didn't really follow through with it. I guess I'm looking for motivation - I'm 23 and I should be in the prime of my life, but I am constantly stuck in a cycle of overeating (I would classify it as binge eating). Seeing as I've tried everything from apps like MyFitnessPal, to joining gyms that I eventually give up on, to every new fad diet you can think of, I'm looking for motivation for change. I know that ultimately I have to be the one to make this work, and this is the first step in doing so.
Let me know if you have felt the same - and what I can do to overcome this and change my life for the better.
Thanks!

The will to change has to come from within you. There is nothing anyone can say that can change that.
I remember being so sad and depressed, I was over weight and hated it. But yet I would still go eat a box of donuts. When I was finally ready to change, I did.0 -
Sometimes, I think it helps to hear people who are successful say, "It's worth it." It's a lot of work and there will be days where you'll ask yourself if it's really worth all this hassle. I'll tell you, it totally is. I wish there was some magical bit of advice, that'll inspire you and carry you to your goal. But it's about digging deep, and realizing you are so completely worth being healthy for. Take each day at a time. Having one bad day, doesn't make the whole journey a total failure. Consistency will be what gets you there. workout, track accurately (weighing your food helps) and repeat. If you get bored with your workouts, change it up. Try new foods! Just always be doing SOMETHING. Don't think about what you're giving up, think of all the wonderful things you'll be gaining with your lifestyle change! They say it takes 21 days to make a habit, for me- it took about 3 months to really make it a lifestyle change. And I fall off the wagon plenty. Just keep trying! Keep coming back to these forums! You'll find a ton of good knowledgeable people here! Keep learning!0

Motivated to do what? What's your plan? Short term and/or long term? I think it's important to have a realistic, sustainable action plan, so let's hear it0

It's true that you have to want the change and will be willing to struggle a bit to get where you want to be. If you do it for other people, then you will surely fail. So once you have the mindset, it'll come easier (not easy, but easier). I can share my story.
Last year I lost about 10-15 pounds watching calories. I didn't eat so healthy but did maintain my calories. Something personal happened where I stopped logging my food and didn't realize that I was overconsuming. Well this time around I did some research and maintained the idea that this was for me and my life, not for others. I wanted to be healthy for me. I wanted to be fit for me. I had a vision in my mind and I used that as my goal (I'm very goal oriented). With that in mind, I decided to try keto or very low carbs. I knew this was for me (temporarily) because I am one of those that need to see results to stay motivated. I thought it would be hard but it really wasn't. I still had my cravings but once you sleep on it, it goes away. I didn't want to do keto forever but losing the weight has made me motivated and my goal seem reachable. Plus eating this way makes my body feel good in that I want to exercise. I don't have that heavy slump I had when I was calorie watching. So all in all I think the keto worked at first. About last week I ate some carbs like fruits and some Asian food. I was worried about how it would affect me. I did feel heavy and gross and that taught me a lesson (although if you look at my food diary, it looks like I didn't). So since then I am eating a bit more carbs and easing my way into a healthier eating habit/lifestyle. Today I ate bad but I was really upset and after eating, I felt so guilty. Having that mindset tells me that I have changed at least little bit.
To keep it short, I guess you have to want the change and really make an effort. There will be times when you feel like you "failed" or let yourself down, but make it a learning lesson and keep on going. Just force yourself to change (physically and mentally) and you'll soon realize that it'll come easier than you think.0
