Too much beer at the Weekend

Not a cry for help ..... but an observation and something that will maybe help others :
I've lost 64lbs since January by going from a "couch potato" to hitting the gym 3 times per week, additional long walks with the dog in the evenings, and following a rough 1,800 kcals daily allowance (sometimes a little over, sometimes a little under). The loss has averaged around 3lbs per week as a result and naturally, I'm thrilled.
I don't cut anything out; I still eat Pizza, still have bread, and I still drink alcohol ... and this is where this weekend's story begins. I should also point out that I'm a "weigh daily person" (I lost over 100lbs in 2009 with a "diet" and then stopped weighing .... and it all came back).
Friday - I had 2 large beers (each of them a 660ml bottle of Cobra)
Saturday - we had friends over and I had 6 beers (again - each was a 660ml bottle of cobra).
Sunday - I had 1 beer (it was the last one and it was a hot sunny day).
I walked the dog on Friday evening (3.5miles) ... Saturday morning (3 miles), Sunday morning (4.5 miles) ... and walked an additiojnal 2.5 miles Sunday evening after dinner.
This morning, the scales showed a 6lbs INCREASE from Friday.
Am I annoyed? Yes - a little. Does it bother me? No ..... I know that each pound of fat is 3,500 calories and whilst I did go over on Saturday (mostly because of beer), I KNOW I didn't consume 21,000 calories over maintenance.
Today is a new day. I've been to the gym and done a 1000 calorie burn. I'm drinking lots of water and am back to 1,800 calories WITHOUT beer.
The 6lbs "gain" is an artificial elevation caused by water weight - no doubt caused by the sodium in the beer, the lack of water I drank, and the slight curry splurge. It'll go during the next 4-5 days and by the end of the week, I'll be back on track again.
So - to those of you who have seemingly added 4-6lbs overnight .... no you haven't (unless you ate THOUSANDS OF CALORIES)....
Drink lots of water.
Climb back on the wagon as today is a new day!

Good advice! I have put on a pound after the weekend (boozy BBQ with friends on Friday, boozy wedding with buffet on Saturday!! Going out for dinner tonight for my OH's birthday tonight too....) but I know that, on average, I haven't eaten over my maintenance. It can be discouraging to see the scale go up, but it's nothing that can't be fixed!
Edit: OH not PH. What's a PH? Oh right, public house...got booze on the brain!0 -
Thanks for this.
Ive lost 17kgs (37lbs) since new year. Same as you, not on a "diet", just making sure that I use more energy than I take in.
OK, some days I go over, but most days i am under (I aim for approx 6000kj (1434kcal)
I weigh in every day, and to see the the scales go up by 2-3kg (4-6lbs) over a weekend, because I had a couple of beers, nearly crushes me, knowing that I had still exercised over the weekend.
A year ago, I would of got depressed about it, convinced myself that I was just meant to be fat and give up.
Now, I have a new mental space and those damn scales just make me want to fight.
I have let my body know that I dont have to give up a couple of beers on the weekend or a few fries with my grilled fish to stay healthy.

I was 2.5lbs heavier this morning after a bottle of red on Friday night and approximately 5 or 6 pints on Saturday afternoon watching the FA cup final, hopefully that should be gone by Wednesday (as usual!)0

I had no weight loss last weekend but had a few beers with my boyfriend over the weekend. At first I was discouraged that I may never be able to drink beer again-I quickly got rid of that thought as I love beer!
Nice to see this is a common issue and one that will pass!0 -
