If you aren't working out for 6-8 weeks, then reevaluate your caloric needs.
Aside from that, there are two different types of hysterectomies: Taking the ovaries and leaving the ovaries. If the ovaries are left, you will still be getting natural hormones, so weight maintain/loss can be done. If the ovaries are taken, then sometimes a hormone replacement therapy is used. I don't know anything about hormone therapy and whether or not weight gain is a side effect of that. If it applies, do some research.
Take it slow and let your body heal. If you backstep while healing, just accept that and get back into it slowly and SAFELY. Do not try to rush it.1 -
You don't say if you're trying to lose weight or maintain your current weight. Either way, how about letting MFP calculate calories based on sedentary, track for a couple weeks and then adjust based on if you lose or maintain?
Good luck on your recovery. I had a hysterectomy (the hard 30+ staples in the belly kind) 10 years ago and I have to say despite the recovery time, it was the best thing I ever decided to do. I didn't know how bad I felt before until I felt better!3 -
I too recently had one (partial), and I changed my MFP eating goal to Sedentary at this time, as I am seriously NOT exercising at all right now. I still eat healthy and meeting my eating goal (as I want to recover well) and continuing to lose as I recover--not losing a lot-but a little bit at a time. Best of luck during your recovery!0

Thank you all. I had a partial as the dr was not able to remove my ovaries. I also had 30 staples in my belly that I just had removed. I think maybe I am worried. I still have about 70 lbs I want to lose to be at my ideal body weight. at least 50 lbs to be ok with my weight. I am grateful that MFP has the support boards because maybe I am a little bit over reacting but its all new and I dont want to put one any of the 130 lbs I lost lol4

I have been worrying about this, too, as I will be having a partial done probably next month. Everyone keeps telling me I'll have to really watch my weight. But I can't see how a partial hysterectomy would affect my weight. I'd love to hear from other women on this.0

Take it real easy, don't fret. remember recovery happens both in the body and soul.
You have lost 130lbs and you can and will lose the rest.
Be gentle and mindful, and give yourself time to heal from the surgery.
Eat balanced, nutritious nourishing meals, to help you heal. luckily those are the type of eating that over time would also help you drop any excess pounds.

I just weighed myself this morning again-I'm down 5.8lbs. I have been warned not to lose while in recovery, but I'm eating balanced healthy meals (for recovery and for life) and I'm tracking my calories at the Sedentary level (no expected exercise workouts) with it set to lose 1/2lb a week and drinking lots of water. I had my staples removed last week with tap applied after. The tape has been on 9 days should be falling off here any day now. I've started very light walking this week and it felt amazing. It tuckered me out-so I'm listening to my body and resting when I need to. I think it comes down to what we put in our mouth and how active we are - the old Calories in vs Calories out. I have a fitbit one on too - and I haven't earned any extra calories over this time, just eating within my calorie range. Best of luck! Friend me if you want.0

I know you had your hysterectomy 8 years ago and I am wondering how you are now all these years later?
In September 2022 I had mine the ovaries were left. Mine included endometriosis and adenomyosis removal. I am doing well and wanting to exercise but I know I'm not allowed for two weeks so I'm going to just do a little walking every other day around my street. I will increase in two weeks.
Its frustrating as my children are on half term and I can't do much with them. We normally go swimming, long walks and do other things that include exercise.
I really hope you are well.1 -

What kind of hysterectomy did you have? In the very near future, I will be having an abdominal hysterectomy with a large vertical incision above my belly button - that's where the very large fibroid lives.
I'd like to hear more about your and others recovery, especially from women who are having an abdominal hysterectomy as opposed to the less invasive type.0 -
I had a total hysterectomy, everything, laparoscopic, in May. I ate as much as I could until mid-August to aid recovery. Still lost a couple of pounds during that time. Have continued to lose slowly since then.0

I had a partial in 2018. I had a huge uterine fibroid and I was bleeding internally so it was an emergency so not a lot of time to discuss post-op side effects. I have an 8 inch vertical scar. I gained 85 pounds by 2021. I also went through a break up (because I was fat and my sex drive was low) lost my job due to covid, started drinking heavily and was eating my emotions. We’re those things because of the hysterectomy? I’m not sure but I was the one who put everything in my mouth and decided to do it. Now I’m back on MFp and had 110 pounds to lose. So far I’ve lost about 50. I’m still figuring out my body post hysterectomy. This was my experience with it. I think if you are aware of what you are eating and your mental state, you will come out ahead of the game.2
