What to do when you've injured yourself?

I have hurt my core muscles in the lower stomach. I could do 30+ sit ups a day before. But I over did it with the walking and running the other day and I can't do a full sit up because my core really hurts. Should I continue with crunches till it heals up? or should I rest it completely?

Definitely want to give it a rest for a few days. Need to distinguish between soreness and pain. If it's still painful in a few days, you should seriously consider seeing a doctor.

Is it soreness or pain? If it's soreness, I work through. Movement actually helps with DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). If it's pain you should rest.

See a doctor and take it easy till healed.:noway:
  • It's muscle ache from over doing it at the gym. I really don't think it's so bad I need to see a doctor, it just needs time to heal up. It's all the muscles in my lower core. I can easily do the crunches, I can feel it when I do but it's just sore not pain. I can not do a full sit up because if I do, then it hurts. Honestly my doctors are useless when it's anything to do with exercise injuries or dieting.

You might have pulled a muscle.

I would wait a few weeks without doing any core exercises and being very wary of exercises that involve or activate your core. After that, if pain is still there go see a doctor.

If its just sore, id say give it an extra day and make sure to stretch out your abdominal muscles, a good way is laying flat on your back and reaching high as you can while pointing your toes straight out almost like you are getting pulled in two different directions. I do it after every core workout and it tends to reduce/help with the DOMS after.

If it's just soreness then I'd do some stretching (and remember to stretch after your exercise next time), drink lots of water, and continue on as usual. DOMS is normal when exercise is new and generally it gets better when you work through it. That's assuming it's not so bad that you can't properly complete the movements. If it's that bad I'd wait an extra day.
  • That's probably exactly what happened, I never thought about it before but actually I forgot to warm down at the end and I always stretch after. I was feeling a bit light headed and thats why I forgot.
