juicing......

I'm heading out to get a juicer and decided on the Jack lelanne juicer. For my budget it fits and the reviews were good. Any thoughts on juicing and any great recipes that involve lots of veggies. That's why I'm getting it. I hate most veggies and am trying to get more in my diet.

Thanks for the help and recipes!

Hi Jenna, there are quite a few threads in this forum about juicing. This is what I wrote in another thread:

I have both a juicer and a blender. Frankly the juicer was a bit a waste of money, while without my blender I could not live!

What really speaks against juicing is, you need tons of vegetable and fruits to make juice which is very costly. Secondly, you are missing all the fibre which is good for you and lastly, juices usually contain quite a bit of sugar, which comes to more than blending as you need to juice more fruits to get the same amount of fluid you would get with blending.

The blender on the other hand lets me make smoothies that are not only healthy but also filling. I have just made myself my morning spinach smoothie, with 250g of spinach (I would NEVER eat that amount of spinach daily and you can hardly get any juice out of it, so not good for juicing), some vanilla almond milk (low sugar), some left over broccoli, flax seeds, chia seeds, 6 chunks of frozen pineapple, some protein powder and usually a cup of blueberries. This will make about 1.2L of smoothie which I can sip for the whole day without ever getting hungry.

So for me, the blender wins in every respect. I have to say though...I have a top of the line blender which is not cheap! Good ones are Blendtec, Vitamix (both of which are expensive but worth every pennie) and then there is the nutri bullet (cheaper and great for smaller portions) which I used at some point.

    Best of luck
    Stef.

Hey Stef thank you for the info! I have a blender and it works great but once everything is in its to thick for me. I need something close to the consistency of milk or water. I have tried it with adding water to the veggies and fruit but it doesn't taste very good. I tried ice as well thinking that a slushy would taste better and get a more consistent texture but no. I have a farmer's market near me and I get the fruit and veggies cheap there as they are all locally grown. I'm not giving up raw veggies completely just looking to add more of the ones I don't like. I know I'm a pain with this question and I appreciate the patience! Thank you for the help!

I use almond milk vanilla taste without added sugar. 30ca per cup. Th other trick is to add something that tastes nice such as a couple of chunks of frozen pineapple!

    My receipe is usually:
    250 gr of spinach
    6 aspargus spears (or not)
200 gr of broccoli (or not)
    6 chunks of pineapple
    200gr of blueberries

Sometimes I add: chia seeds, flax seeds and spoon of peanut butter and whatever leftover veggies I do have. You can dilute it so that it gets the consistence of milk,...well sort of...
