Is ground turkey really better than ground beef?
And does anyone have any good ideas for lunches. I am a single guy who likes to do easy lunches but I cant think of any healthy lunches besides salads and pita sandwhiches and I get pretty bored after a while.

No, not in taste nor nutrition0 -
Saves on calories and less saturated fat if that's your main concern. I make spaghetti with ground turkey.

I compared the macros of similarly "lean" turkey and beef... they were identical if I remember correctly. For a while I bought both... just to keep things different. Eventually I found that I liked the ground turkey better... so that's all I get now.0

I just like the taste of ground turkey over beef. I make tacos, spaghetti, turkey burgers, and ocassionally if I'm pressed for time I will buy a box of hamburger helper (maybe once every couple months) and use ground turkey.0

ok, thanks to you all.
I think I got what I need to know about the ground turkey and ground beef.0 -
What about Organic Bison?
My old roommate makes ground turkey mixed with bison burgers. BEST Burger I have ever had!! On some sourdough! YUM.
Is that healthy?0 -

Beef without a doubt - unless your making turkey burgers.0

Doesn't necessarily save on fat. Most ground turkey typically has a lower fat content if you are buying from a grocer, but it's not a given. Just depends on how much fat the butcher adds in when mixing. It may only take asking the butcher at your local grocer to make you a batch of 95/5 burger.0

How does that even make sense? You'd have to overcook the bison to get the turkey to medium or so. Odd pairing0 -
I use both. The advantage of ground turkey is that it comes in 99% fat free, and beef only in 94% (although I saw 95 or 96 once).
For your lunches, just make what you'd have for breakfast or dinner. When I grew up there was never any distinction between lunch and dinner food... must be an American thing.0 -
Yes, ground turkey is better
cause it tastes better
in my opinion.0 -

Ground turkey "can" be low-fat and so can ground beef. Lower fat ground beef will cost more. Always check labels, not all ground turkey is created equal.0 -
As a bikini competition prepper, I find that ground turkey is lower in fat, which makes it much easier to fit into my low fat goals for the next 8 weeks. But since there is nothing wrong health-wise with dietary fat, there is no reason to avoid one over the other.0

I'm sorry - why do we need lower fat ground beef? It dries out on the bar-b-Q.0

Lunch Ideas - not sure if you had access to a toaster oven/microwave and I eat a lot of chicken.
Salad - mixed with all kinds of veggies, olives and grilled chicken
Soup - Panera's, canned or homemade - I will add saltines depending on the calorie count of the soup
Tortilla Roll Ups - wheat roll up with light miracle whip, lettuce, tomatoes, and usually chicken or tuna
Lettuce Boats - Romaine filled with broccoli slaw, chicken, light miracle whip and a bit of bacon
Apple and Peanut Butter Sandwich Circles
Gorton's Grilled & Garlic Talapia (two squares) with corn on the cob or sauteed asparagus
Ground turkey would be great in the lettuce boats! Think I will try that.
I only buy ground turkey but have read that it is no different than purchasing lean ground beef. The ground turkey is normally around $2.50/lb while the lean ground beef can be much more so I just stick with the turkey. I prefer it in Chili but I have to admit my kids on burger night beg me to buy actual beef and not the lean stuff.0
