ask your friend what the plan is. are you following him or her? or are they expecting you to lead the way with questions and stuff.

what do you want to focus on? do you want to just run on a treadmill, learn the strength machines, pick up some free weights, or are you looking to go to a class?

    starting strength
    new rules of lifting
    strong lifts

    start there.

Do some research on form (youtube is a gold mine if you can find the right ones- So you Think you can Squat/Bench/DL are great)

write your workout down in advance- it'll save you time.
Don't go at peak hours (like 5-7)
bring a towel if you think you sweat a lot
re-rack your weights- if you lift them- you can put them away
    wipe down your benches
bring your own water bottle if you drink a lot- saves you trips to the fountain.
