Okay so I've been working without MFP for about a month and lost 14lbs in that month, IT FEELS SOOOOOOOO GOOD! Although I did go to the OBGYN and he says you still have PCOS it won't go away! I asked him about the current blood work and he said it is great! My hormone levels are much better now and everything is good, hopefully pretty soon I'll start ovulating appropriately since he can tell my monthly are coming more easily every month.
I was so scared about my cholesterol levels too that he checked with this diet. Actually they were better than ever before lol and my high triglycerides gone!
So then I went to my nutritionist yesterday and talked about the PCOS, I felt so down because even the so called whole grains and multi grains that I CRAVE.I eat it even one serving a day or a half of a serving a day I don't loose in fact I gain.
She said it's simple and it's not about the gluten allergy in fact I'm not gluten intolerant, I can have that. It's the fact of sugar, carbs, insulin, and how it converts and how the androgens turn into testosterone. I mean it's a pretty scientific fact! I was shocked that a nutritionist would know this. She gave me more information than my doctor gave me, obviously we know my body can not handle carbs.
My diet: Plenty of protein, NO GRAINS WHATSOEVER! Plenty of vegetables about 3 servings per meal, unlimited eggs, dairy, no junk food, no fruit, lots of legumes and some nuts.
Now I asked her well why not whole grains? She laughed and said yes she was trained to believe in them too but she doesn't believe in it anymore or at least for certain people with certain problems. There are some people out there who simply can not handle grains at all! If they eat them it stores as fat, no bones about it. She said we aren't sure exactly why this happens, why females develop PCOS and why males develop hormone problems but this happens!
I asked..so does this mean I'm going to have to watch this for the rest of my life? She said maybe, maybe not we don't know. What we do know is that right now you have to!
SO PLEASE EVERYONE THAT SAYS OH DON'T WATCH THE CARBS AND THE SUGAR AND THIS AND THAT! You aren't exactly sure why they aren't loosing now are you? You're not their doctors or in their bodies. Do you know if they have an allergy? NOT EVERYONE CAN SIMPLY EAT LESS CALORIES AND LOOSE WEIGHT!
Personally I ate sensibly (with carbs watched calories watched fat) and in a whole year, I only lost 3lbs. This is how hard people with PCOS and hormone problems can have with this even if we ate only 1200 calories a day! Our bodies are so out of wack it's not funny.
Sorry just had to get this out, it's been bugging me searching the community.

Most people don't have PCOS...or other hormone issues where the advice given is CICO.
Often times people will say "pending medical conditions"
But yes...to lose weight you have to burn more calories than you eat...it is that simple...even now that how you lost.
As for seeing a nutritionist...was it really a registered dietician or just a nutritionist..???
And yes that advice will continue to be given to posters who are asking the question. Carbs and sugar are not inherently bad for the general public and don't need to be watched. If the poster indicates they have a medical condition such as PCOS then the suggestions are watch carbs and sugar...but it is up to the OP to indicate the medical conditon, allergies etc...and if they are willing to share all the information then they will get the advice...CICO.0 -
You may want to read the link provided; and this from the link
"Lifestyle modification. Many women with PCOS are overweight or obese, which can cause health problems. You can help manage your PCOS by eating healthy and exercising to keep your weight at a healthy level. Healthy eating tips include:
Limiting processed foods and foods with added sugars
Adding more whole-grain products, fruits, vegetables, and lean meats to your diet
This helps to lower blood glucose (sugar) levels, improve the body's use of insulin, and normalize hormone levels in your body. Even a 10 percent loss in body weight can restore a normal period and make your cycle more regular." Quote from the link below.

I am not a physician and when you state your OBGYN says it will not go away maybe time is a better reference point then what you think. You may want to read the entire article for some perspective. Good luck.0 -
It's been made pretty clear that UNLESS YOU HAVE A HEALTH CONDITION, counting calories does in fact work.0

While I agree most of the time, not disagree with you on about 80-85% of the time try telling our bodies this. Our bodies and what that is saying is just not true. I imagine that's the government talking? Or maybe some traditional doctor saying oh more grain more whole grain more fruit MORE SUGAR MORE SUGAR MORE SUGAR!
Meh everybody is different.0 -
When we say sweeping statements like eating less move more = weight loss, we are speaking for the majority. Ofc there are those rare people with medical conditions, but since they are in the vast minority we dont actually mention "barring medical conditions" on every post.
For the vast, vast majority of people is really is a case of calories in <calories out.0 -
