Does anyone on here drink alkaline water? A friend has cancer and is drinking it and after reading all the benefits I am tempted to try it...let me know if you have tried this!

From Mayo Clinic website:Answers from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.
For most people, plain water is best.
Because alkaline water has a higher pH level than does plain tap water, proponents say that it can neutralize acid in your bloodstream, boost your metabolism and help your body absorb nutrients more effectively. Some even say that alkaline water can help prevent disease and slow the aging process. However, researchers haven't verified these claims.
Some studies suggests that alkaline water may help slow bone loss, but further investigation is needed to determine if this influences overall bone mineral density and if the benefit is maintained over the long term.
I would say your friend is drinking it because of the claim it could help slow bone loss from the Chemo. Not sure it would help you at all.0 -
Where does one find alkaline water? Is it just as effective to just add the juice of a lemon? I read that even though lemons are acidic, they change to alkaline in the human stomach. Anything you can add to help me learn would really help me because I have pre-osteoarthritis. Thanks!0

Sorry, it's pseudoscience. Beyond the placebo effect, it has no real benefit.0

The pH of the blood and other body fluids is very closely regulated by the body's feedback systems, endocrine system, excretory system, etc. Even a variation of a few tenths of a point can be dangerous. So anything that would raise your pH (make your system more alkaline) is generally excreted in your urine before it can effect your pH (this is why the urine of people on an "alkaline diet" or drinking "alkaline water" is higher, not because it's actually changing the body's pH). Similarly, anything that would lower the pH of the body (making it more acidic) would also be excreted before taking effect, because of the same reasons. So there's no reason to drink alkaline water unless you like the taste ... assuming you just mean lemons in the water or something, and not adding lye0

Pseudoscience. There isn't any clinical study (that I've come across anyway) that one can alter the body's blood pH level through food or drink. And as for pH regulation, the kidneys take care of this by itself.

This is what he says and he had stage 4 colon cancer:
Alkaline water helps the body return to the alkaline state which, in turn, allows the body to do what God intended for it to do: heal itself. Vince has been drinking some alkaline water brought to him which he states has given him energy and his kidney function was above normal for the first time in 5 years!
His update from doctor is tumor markers dropped 44% in 4 weeks!!!!!! Weight is up somewhat and blood work was perfect!
Since I have diabetes, Addison's disease and have had a heart attack and TBI....I want to know if it will help my body~~0 -

Medical science has studies that show that food/drink doesn't affect blood pH.

We've already told you that it won't. As mathjulz said, while urine pH is a bit more fickle, blood pH is already carefully regulated by your body, even the slightest variation could kill you. I'm sorry this isn't the answer you hoped to get, but it's just facts. It goes against basic chemistry and there is zero scientific evidence for it. As ninerbuff also said, anecdotal evidence is not reliable. Any positive changes one would experience from drinking "alkaline" water are either due to something else or are caused by the placebo effect.0 -
My chemistry professor says this is a pure rip off...0
