Fighting boredom at the gym?

How do you all stay motivated while on stationary equipment, like ellipticals, bikes, or treadmills? I get so bored on them after a few minutes, and lose all motivation to stay on! Usually I'll bring my iPhone with me, with a playlist of upbeat songs to keep me focused, but even that doesn't always help. I think I mostly get bored because I'm moving, but staying in one place; it's not like biking or walking/running outside.
I do want to get back into the gym to do more lifting/cardio, but what are some tips you all have for pushing through your workouts?

If I use the elliptical or treadmill then I do interval training - that way I have to focus on changing speeds. But honestly, I've moved more toward doing weights at the gym and doing cardio outside as I prefer that.0

I used to watch DVDs, but right now I have a playlist I go through to keep my pace up. I will also keep the news on in the morning at the gym as I'm usually the only one there.
Use it as a meditation time. My mind likes to drift or sometimes I just don't really think about anything and focus on my breathing. I find morning is the absolute best time for me because I'm not stressed out about anything and will have a clear head.0 -

There's tv on the cardio equipment at my gym, or I people watch like crazy.0

I cover the whole front of the machine with a towel so I don't know how long I've gone for/how long I still have to go. Then I throw on some music and just pretend I'm in a magical world of a music video. Or rather, I just space out to that and keep going until the machine noticeably decreases in level (ie cool down starts)0
