Started 5x5 programme last week. Done a session yest and feel like I could do it again today. Just wondering if this has worked for anyone else? If you do any other exercise apart from the programme? Maybe abs/cardio etc?
Thanks
Thanks

Have been doing 5x5 for years and I like it a lot.0

I've been doing it for 6 months and it has made a difference in my body and strength. I love it.0

In for responses. I recently started this as well.0

Not, I haven't done it because I can's squat or do deadlift. I have bad knees and lower back. And even if I could do it my gym doesn't have a squat rack. But people seem to like it and their pictures show good results.
Good luck!0 -
Give it a couple months - time for it to get heavy.0

I also started Stronglifts about 2 weeks ago. It didn't feel hard to me the day of, but the following night I couldn't walk up stairs without wincing. Squats no longer give me too much delayed soreness, which is good. I also do cardio 3-4 days a week, walking & wogging 1-3 miles, very hilly, in 20-60 minutes.0

I felt the same way about going again the next day when I first started and sometimes I did accessory work on my off days. Believe me, it gets harder as you progress and you look forward to the off days. I made the mistake the other day of doing some additional lifting on my off day this week and I missed two reps on my 2nd and one on my 3rd set of overhead press.
Some people say that after a while you do start getting "used" to the workout and can add accessory work later, I guess we will see.
Good luck and hope it works well for you.0 -
Thank you for all the replies. I do appreciate your comments. So do you just continue to increase weight every session and can continue or this programme forever? Or after a while should you move onto something else.
As I know some people do legs one day, chest another etc0 -
With 5x5 you should increase each workout. You will peak and have to de-load and increase again. You can do this a couple of times and then you peak and have to switch to something else like a 5x3x1 or something else. I wish it was forever but you only get to use beginner progress for so long.0

Many many success stories on MFP with people doing Starting Strength and Stronglifts. Stick with the program as it's detailed. If you feel like you can do something in between your sessions, you can also add some conditioning like (running, swimming, jump rope, Tabata, HIIT) or accessory work.
Theses programs can keep you busy for a while. From there, you have many options as well, 5-3-1, Madcow, Texas Method, ICF, 3x5, etc....
Just really depends on your goals and what you enjoy doing.0 -

I've dropped to SL 3x5 and am still seeing changes in my body and strength. It takes me about 45-60 minutes to complete and sometimes I'll add accessory lifts in afterwards on deadlift days.0
