Sushi recommendations

So my birthday is on Friday, and I will be preparing all this week for my birthday dinner, which will be sushi.
I generally get a spicy tuna roll and an eel and avocado roll when I go out, but I want to try some new options.

The only thing I don't like is crab. I've had spider rolls before, and they were good..until I had an awful one a couple weeks ago at a local restaurant, and now it's turned me off crab for a little while. Same with California rolls; the place we're going to uses imitation crab for those, so I'd like to avoid that as well. Other than that, everything else is fresh and fair game there.

What's your favorite roll, or what would you recommend?
And don't be scared if they're higher calorie options. Like I said...I'm preparing for an epic meal. With plenty of wine.

Dragon roll. It's just so high in calories is the problem.

There's a roll where we are called the Venus roll. It's tempura fried and delicious.

I also love anything with salmon and avocado.

I straight up order yellowfin sashimi marinated in soyu, wasabi, and lemon with a side of warm sticky rice.

Luckily I'm getting a bunch of walking in that day, so that roll is no issue! I think I've tried it before; it's the colorful one presented in a serpentine shape, right?

Forgot to include a gif. Should have included one implying I wanted to demolish it immediately.

    That one looks amazing!

Spicy tuna and eel are my jaaaam. My go-to 100% of the time. Spicy tuna is my favorite food; I miss sushi so much now that I am eating keto. :( Shrimp tempura and dragon are both good, too. Enjoy your birthday!!

    Scallop and asparagus roll

Sashimi roll. Assorted fish (salmon, toro and yellowtail), blanched asparagus, avocado and daikon wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and nori. Yuzu/ponzu dressing. I've had a variation of this where the cucumber wrap was exchanged for squid, which was even more awesome.

Salmon skin roll. The texture is like perfectly roasted chicken skin. Super crispy, a little salty, and a little fatty (no chicken flavor  ). I have no trouble eating the whole roll.

Flying fish roe or salmon roe roll. Skip the salmon roe if you're not a fan of salty food.

I like rainbow rolls, but now I can't remember if they have imitation crab in them. I wonder though if you could just have them leave the crab out and maybe add more veggies instead?

The dragon rolls are also delicious.

My only memory of octopus is in 7th grade, and my science teacher bringing it in for people to try. Didn't do it...but can't get that canned version out of my head to this day, haha. I'm the same way with shellfish. I ate scallops at a friend's wedding (since almost every course was seafood based), and tried oysters once. Those were interesting.

At my local sushi train they have a dish called the treasure chest. It is a vessel made of avocado stuffed with spicy seasoned tuna sitting in a nest of daikon threads floating in a sea of yummy dressing speckled with roe. Delicious, very low carb and very large.

I once had a handroll made with sticky rice, banana and chocolate wrapped in thinly-sliced mango.

It was so good I actually wept.

    Sashimi roll.
    I call oxymoron!

I prefer sashimi as well, though, tuna, salmon, roe, shrimp, lots of things that I have no names for (at least not in English, but NOT scallops) with a lump of sticky rice on the side, wasabi, shredded ginger and soy sauce.

I can live without the fancy rolls, so I second pure salmon sushi (love that buttery texture with the slightly sweet rice). And I see someone above already mentioned aji...I just had that for the first time this weekend and LOVED it. It has a little more "tooth" to it. I like a spicy tuna hand roll with crunch every now and then too.

Oh I'm editing to add one more: my husband loves to order hamachi kama (not sure of the spelling) but it's yellowtail collar (hubby calls it the cheek), grilled, very flaky and delicious!
