Yo-Yo Weight

This is my first time posting on any type of blog or forum but here goes.

I gained a lot of weight in my first and second year of university, due to having to quit my sports teams and addition of meal hall. I put on about 40 freshman pounds. This brought me to an unhealthy 180lbs. on my 5'4" body.

Then I found a "life coach", dietitian etc. who put me on a clean eating plan and gave me a good workout outline and I lost about 25 pounds and was feeling pretty good.

Then came vacation, exams and other things that got in the way and I've been putting all my weight back on.

For the people who lost weight and kept it off, how did you keep going during the stressful or unmotivated times? Heeeelllpppp.

I believe in being able to eat the foods you like because if you start being too restrictive, you are going to give up and feel like you are being punished. If this is going to be a lifestyle change, eat what you enjoy in moderation. Moderation is really the key. Check your serving sizes and stay within your calorie goals. If you want to eat more, be more active so that you can eat more. At the same time, make sure your calorie goal is correct for your stats and you're not eating too little and therefore feel like your starving and binge on large quantities of food.

If you are at a point where you are less active, you will be consuming less calories. To be honest, you really don't have to exercise to lose weight, although activity is important. We all have our "down" times. Just get back on track when you can.

I found a way to make it a sustainable life style. This meant NOT clean eating. When I'm in a hurry, or stressed for exams, or just want to be a young adult having some fun, I don't want to worry about what kind of food I'm eating. I don't demonize food. This means a pop-tart on the way to class is okay. A can of tuna is a fine snack. A candy bar from the vending machine because class is running longer than I expected is okay. I log the calories, stay in a deficit, and find success along the way.
