Hi

Can anyone help with some advice as I don't want to damage my health

I am 33 5.1ft and always been a healthly 9 stone, I had twins 11 months ago and lost a stone of pregnancy weight since the birth.

I ate a very high protein egg, yogurt , chicken etc because I like the food and work out 2-3 times a week. I don't look underweight but my stats on my scales say my body fat is 13.7% and muscel 45% and water about 60% . All my research says my body fat is too low but I am not underweight just normal and to be honest looking to lose another 4lb to reach my goal

My question is is my body fat too low? or is google just a guide and I don't need to panic ? don't want to be unhealthly

The scales that measure your body fat can be very, very inaccurate. Below 14% on a female frame (of any size) is competition ready bodybuilder woman type BF. Unless you look that (although, many, many variables here) at the weight you state (currently 9 stone = 135lb? Am I correct?), likely the scale is wrong (also 13.7 + 45 + 60 adds up to more than 100%, so there's that, too).

    13.7% + 45% + 60% is 118.7%. Something is wrong there.

I'm not sure what device you used to "measure" this but please consider that the device might not be at all accurate and that if you look and feel healthy you probably are.

Oops, I didn't mean to respond to a duplicate post (forgive me, I'm new, too). Hopefully my advice echoes the other thread.

13%?... if I were you I'd work out and get it down to 12%... for a female that six pack terrain

    Ask a doctor.

I would really question if your scales are accurate. That doesn't sound right at all. I'm 5'2", 9st 3lbs, and I would (visually) estimate myself in the high 20% range- but then again you are probably more muscular than I am. Calculators based on my measurements have put me anywhere from 24-30%. If you are muscular, I would say a percentage in the mid or high teens would be reasonable.

Based on your BMI, you're fine- but then again that can be flawed too. Really, your waist, hip, bust, and thigh measurements would help in determining your build.

Ultimately, check with your doctor. If he or she isn't concerned, I wouldn't worry about it.

One question though- if you're concerned about having a low body fat percentage, why are you trying to lose 10 lbs? Just curious...

If your body fat percentage gets under 8% ask a doctor... I'm at 11.5-12.5% right now and just saw my doctor and I'm the walking example of perfection...

yourfine.. if I were you tho i'd do more and shave offt that last percentage point before your abs go from eh.. too ... EHHH (-_^)

Depending on the scale and how you use it, the figure given by your scale may be off by several percent. I'd suggest getting another measurement by a different method (calipers, another scale, bodpod) and compare the results.

I'd also suggest asking your physician if s/he thinks your body fat is too low.

Um, no. For females that's essential fats terrain (about equal to a man being at 5%). The body fat % you see six pack is up to your genetic make-up. Somewhere between 18 and 30% (depending on age) is good for women.

    ^ LIES XD

    WOMEN:
    Competition Shape ("ripped"): 8-12%
    Very Lean (excellent): < 15%
    Lean (good): 16-20%
    Satisfactory (fair): 21-25%
    Improvement needed (poor): 26-30%
Major improvement needed (Very poor): 31-40%+

    MEN:
    Competition Shape ("ripped"): 3-6%
    Very Lean (excellent): < 9%
    Lean (good): 10-14%
    Satisfactory (fair): 15-19%
    Improvement needed (poor): 20-25%
Major improvement needed (Very poor): 26-30%+

    OP- seriously?
I don't look underweight but my stats on my scales say my body fat is 13.7%

98% sure your measurement is just off.

It is very VERY hard to believe that you would be walking around at 13% bodyfat as a woman and somehow be unaware that you were low bodyfat. That is like competition level low bodyfat.

Alright I just crunched some numbers and yeah, 13.7% cannot be right.

For us non-Brits 9 stone is 126 pounds. 5'1 and 126 pounds. My fiancee who is 5'6 and rail thin is 135 pounds and she is 18% bodyfat.

If you were 13.7% bodyfat that would mean you only had 17 pounds of fat on you which would mean your lean mass was 119 which for a 5'1 woman would mean that you are incredibly muscular, like bodybuilder muscular. Certainly more muscular than me as my lean mass is 135 and I am a 6' tall man.

Here is a picture of a 33 year old 5'6 woman who weighs 125 pounds and is 17% bodyfat

    michelle-carlson-after.jpg

here is another one, 5'6 and 125 pounds

    dr-rochelle-parks_a.jpg

Both of these women have more than 13% bodyfat and are 5 inches taller than you and weigh the same as you while having a good amount of muscle.

Here is a 5'1 woman who says she is 13% bodyfat and she weighs 109 pounds while being pretty muscular.

Do you have about 15 pounds more muscle than that woman? Unless you are incredibly ripped and cannot pinch even a milimeter on your stomach then you are probably not 13% bodyfat.

    True.

^LMAO - I was walking around at 13% and didn't know it... once I realized how close I was to a six pack I got my butt in gear and shaved off another percent at least..

and now I stand before you.. hotness personified.
