What, how, why??? Zaggora hot pants weight loss pants? SMH

I ran across a groupon for these Zaggora hot pants that are supposed to have "weight loss technology." Seriously? WTH?

http://zaggora.com/hotpants/

I'm pretty competent in biology, physiology, and science... Can someone even speculate how these things work??? Not in broscience terms...

No, I'm not planning on getting a pair.

Ugh, I got the same Groupon in my email today. Did you hear about the Skechers ShapeUps settlement? They have to dole out $40 million because their claims are unfounded. I don't have those, but I have some Reebok Easy Tones that I have only worn about 3 times. They hurt my feet more than they work anything else. They'll be donated with the next haul of fat clothes.

Reebok had the same type of Class Action lawsuit over the Easy Tone shoes and clothing. I filled out some paperwork for the 2 pairs of shoes I bought from them. Haven't heard anything since. I figured I run around the hospital all day anyways, why not wear the easy tone shoes... yah, they hurt my knees.

Ugh, this girl I'm friends with on facebook (went to high school together) not only hawks those stupid "Super Skinny Wraps" as if they're magic, but she posted something the other day about getting "such a great workout!" in wearing those Zaggora hot pants. She swears up and down that since she was sweating soooo much in them she was burning so many calories.

She's always trying to get me to host a "wrap" party and crap...she says she swears by them, which is interesting seeing as she is still just as overweight as she was a year ago. And I've lost 20 lbs since January sans wraps and hot pants. Dumb.

I am trying to find a negative review on that site. I think they deleted them all. There's only 160 reviews and they are all good. Doesn't seem legit.

I hate seeing ads for wraps when I'm on MFP. I've never used them but I'm not stupid. The only time I can see wrapping working is postpartum (to stimulate the uterus) and post surgery, to help minimize swelling... but honey, if a wrap works so darn well, everyone who wears girdles and shapewear would be super skinny.

Woooooooooooooow! What a load of s***
  • I have 2 pairs of zaggoras and they make you sweat so much!
When I run a 5k without them I sweat but when I run with the zaggoras they make it harder for you to move so you have to fight with them and I end up dripping in sweat with my legs and bum being soaked.
Theres nothing special about them at all they are made of fibres that just make you sweat more and it makes your legs smooth and helps cellulite. I've lost about 3inches off my thighs from wearing them when I go to the gym.
Not everyones taste though as when I first wore them they make A LOT of noise and are really tight and pricey (thank god for groupon!) but they are worth it if you put the effort in with them.

They don't, they just make you sweat more.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but increased sweat doesn't mean increased calorie burn. It means you are depleting more water/waste. Some people just sweat more than others. This is just another example of a company preying on ignorant people who are looking for a quick gimmick to achieve what should be a long term goal.

None of the research I've done says that sweating more in a specific area (ie from the hot pants) = increased calorie burn. I can imagine that sweating more from overall heat could correlate with increased heart rate which and increased calorie burn (ie working out outside at noon when its hot as hell outside), but even that is in the noise.

I didn't actually look at the site, but for I want to see a peer reviewed study looking at effects of these "hot pants." Also, I don't know if I'd want to wear PANTS that make you sweat more, for women there is already a delicate balance *down there* and accumulation of sweat and moisture can seriously throw off the normal flora resulting is several female issues! (Sorry guys if that was TMI).

There was a thread on here the other day where someone was asking whether if she wore a trash bag while working out would she lose weight quicker. I hate gimicks... My boyfriend had someone at work try to sell him Advocare 24 day cleanse to get rid of the toxins. I talked to the lady and she couldn't answer ANY of my questions which were 1) define toxins and 2) what happens on day 25.
  • I have a pair of these. They do make me sweat a lot more. And I know quite well that more sweat does not equal more weight loss, but as someone who has rolls that jiggle when they shouldn't, I love working out in my hotpants because they are so supportive, there is no jiggling which makes me feel less self conscious and more comfortable.TThey do make a loud swishing noise. My husband teases me about it. lol. But I like them. I think of them as like a really good sports bra, but for my lower half. I suppose you can get the same feel from some workout clothes but of the ones I've tried, none of them come close to sucking me in as well. So for running and for zumba or anything I might be jumping around a lot in, I like the hotpants. That said to anyone who wants to try them out... don't believe the hype, cause you have to work hard to lose weight. there are NO short cuts.
  • I have a pair and they work great. They help me sweat more by adding a bit more resistance as well as the material it is made from. My belly did get a lot flatter wearing them.
  • Definitely thinking of trying the pants... the support if anything would be nice. As far as the wraps.. they do work (temporarily). It isn't the wrap.. it's the lotion that's on it that's all natural and gets absorbed. They are great for events.. but not long term weight loss.

I have a few pairs of these pants. No, they won't make a person lose weight quicker. Personally, I like the way they fit and they keep me warm.... I tend to get cold when the weather hits about 72 so wearing these when the weather is "cold" is my preference.

I workout a lot, and very regularly. Vigorous exercise is the ONLY way to lose weight effectively. Diet pills aren't going to do that, or wearing a certain type of clothing. I sweat a lot without the pants on. I sweat more with them on. Either way, I'm going to sweat.

I have friends who also own these pants and they swear they are losing weight wearing them. I keep telling them these pants don't make me lose weight and they seem to think I am the only person they don't "work" for. I'm not going to argue with them about it, however. If wearing the pants convinces them they are losing weight and it makes them do more physical activity, then the pants are serving their purpose.... even if it's not the way the website claims it will happen. :)
  • I have 3 pairs of these. I only wear them in the winter on my runs because they're too hot and make me sweat too much in the summer. I have to say they "work" simply because they do a great job of keeping the cellulite off in the winter when I'm not sweating as much. I've always had cellulite and these seem to work. If you stop wearing them and continue eating cellulite prone food, you will get cellulite. However if you change your lifestyle and diet and are still plagued with a few bumps left that won't seem to go, these do the trick. Something about the sweating and compression releases the pocketed fat cells. I know most things nowadays seem to be a quick easy way out, hot pants aren't it, however they'll help you get there just like any other arsenal you use to keep you healthy and the weight off. They're by no means a miracle pant but they actually do the job and they do it pretty damn well. They helped me get into a size 0 short without feeling self conscious of my cellulite. That screams worth it to me.
  • should I buy one size smaller if my hip measurement is 101.5cm?? for Capri 2.0?

    this.

I know someone who has them- she loved working out in them- they were loud- like a take on a wet suit... looked wildly uncomfortable but she liked the structure and support of a thicker garment.

I haven't been able to find any info anywhere on this. Can you help me figure out what foods are cellulite prone? Maybe just a link or two?

Food is. If you eat this food in excess, it may be stored as fat. Predisposition to cellulite-appearance fat is genetic. Reduce your fat, reduce your cellulite.

Sounds like my wrestler friends in high school who would wear trashbags in order to sweat so they'd make weight. I think I'll pass.

That's how I always understood it, Sarah. But perhaps we are wrong.

That poster sounds like she knows something I don't know, though. Now I have to know.

Lol cellulite is a skin elasticity and connective tissue problem. You can be at stage level bf% and still have cellulite.

I still see this, and those plastic track suits, at my gym on occasion. On people who aren't about to enter the ring. I chew gum to avoid saying things like, "Gonna drink water tonight? That gainz is coming back, bro." :headwall:

Agreed. You can REDUCE its appearance by fat loss, you're right that it doesn't always eradicate the visual issue.

Best way to fight cellulite is to keep properly hydrated and increase blood flow to the skin and connective tissue so your body can keep it as healthy as possible. Fish oil may help but most of it is predetermined by genetics and hormones. :/

I've had my Hot Pants and Hot Shirt since Groupon first offer them at $26.00 several years ago.
I love them, you sweat a lot; the sweat drips off you and it smooths the skin and evens out the cellulite.
Since buying my 1st pair, I have 5 pair of hot pants, 1 hot bra and 2 hot shirts. I have the Flares (my favorites stupors my knees well) 2 pairs of shorts, 1 Viva color and 1 nude. I'm in the process of buying another pair of hot pants. I don't know about the weight lost claim but after wearing them you will see why we love them. I wear my hot pants under my regular workout clothing and I'm well supported, I'm a normally skinny girl that got obsessed from stressed and menopause over the last 7 years and very self confidence of walking around without the support but don't want to look dumpy.

and just another. yup. that's what you pay for when buying them - excellent marketing

anyhow, i am always looking for lighter, cooler exercise gear, so i can just frown at this and smile at the same time...

but then, if they give someone incentive to work out and move more , i guess in a way they would be working....
